Will Spider-Man be in Avengers: Doomsday? All the major characters missing
Following a hint of significant Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) updates, enthusiasts were informed that an unveiling on March 28 concerning Avengers: Doomsday was anticipated to surpass the excitement generated by Robert Downey Jr’s portrayal as Doctor Doom.
People didn’t anticipate a nearly six-hour live broadcast featuring chairs labeled with cast members’ names, but as minutes turned into hours, a sense of foreboding grew.
Apart from potentially revealing characters who survive and perish in the movie Thunderbolts, and earning criticism for its marketing strategies, it is accurate to say that there were significant announcements such as the continuation of the X-Men era under Fox, and the return of Channing Tatum’s Gambit.

There might be additional characters joining, but we’re uncertain about their placement (if any); however, the current cast lineup has noticeable vacancies.
Namely, where is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man?
Following his first appearance in “Captain America: Civil War” and taking center stage in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has won over many fans. Though the world may have forgotten his identity at the end of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” his role as a key character in a potential “New Avengers” team guaranteed that we would see more of him.
Regarding Spider-Man’s absence in “Doomsday,” it’s undecided if Marvel Studios plans to announce his involvement at a future time. Fortunately, Tom Holland won’t be out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for too long, as filming for “Spider-Man 4” is scheduled to begin in June 2025.
Just as Ant-Man and the Wasp provided an explanation for why Paul Rudd’s character was absent in Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man 4 could potentially elaborate on that gap in the storyline. Initially conceived as a street-level film, Spider-Man 4 is rumored to have a significantly larger scope, bridging the gap between Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
During the filming process, it’s possible that Tom Holland might make a brief appearance in the Doomsday scene. Since the release timing of Spider-Man 4 seems significant, perhaps due to the handling of Iron Man’s demise in Spider-Man: Far From Home, it wouldn’t be unexpected if there were connections between Spidey and this upcoming movie.
Nowadays, fewer original Avengers are around, which makes it odd that we haven’t seen Mark Ruffalo’s character, Bruce Banner/Hulk, recently.
Although it was confirmed in the She-Hulk finale that he spent some quality time with his son, fans felt frustrated that he didn’t make an appearance in The Incredible Hulk’s storyline, Captain America: Brave New World, especially since it reintroduced The Incredible Hulk and could have given him the chance to calm down Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk.
In relation to this topic, it was initially planned for Tatiana Maslany’s character Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk to play a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the future. However, she has only been seen in that leaked concept art which the Russo Brothers asked us to disregard, suggesting it might not be an authentic piece of their work.
Regarding the gossip, it seems that two star-crossed lovers might reunite in the movie titled “Doomsday“. Insiders suggest that Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell will reprise their roles as Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter respectively.
The announcement didn’t provide chairs for either of them, which leads us to question whether Evans was truthful when he said the report about Anthony Mackie’s return was false. Only time will tell if it’s true for both parties.
Besides several other conspicuous omissions, there is much discussion about why Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, Doctor Strange, was not included in the list. This is particularly curious given his past relationship with our web-slinging superhero.
It’s not unexpected since he initially stated back in January that he wouldn’t appear in “Doomsday”, which he later corrected by admitting he made a mistake. Among the characters listed here, Doctor Strange is the one we’re most certain will be included, given that Cumberbatch himself has confirmed he’ll be part of Secret Wars.
The third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy concluded with a scene reminiscent of Bond films, hinting at the return of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), but there are indications that he might not feature in the upcoming film titled Doomsday. Interestingly, the other Guardians were absent as well, suggesting that this time, we may not be venturing into space together.
Discussing the stars, it appears that Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast were stranded in a different universe following “The Marvels”. Given that Grammer is part of “Doomsday”, there’s some curiosity about why Monica Rambeau’s close friend, Captain Marvel, hasn’t been confirmed to be involved yet.
Regarding Carol Danvers, her position as one of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s strongest characters implies she might have assisted in dealing with Doctor Doom. Similarly to Ruffalo, Brie Larson is hinted at being among the key figures guiding the Avengers in future endeavors.
It seems unlikely that the poor performance at the box office of “The Marvels” would significantly reduce Brie Larson’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it does seem strange that neither Larson, Teyonah Parris nor Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel) have been officially confirmed for future projects within the MCU, suggesting there might be something unusual going on behind the scenes.
To wrap up some significant names, there was a lot of buzz suggesting that Wanda Maximoff might be rescued from the debris of Mount Wundagore.
A fresh comic book published by TVA, consistent with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), implies that Wanda may have survived the events portrayed as her death in “Multiverse of Madness.” Actress Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda, has expressed a desire to revisit her character’s witchy persona.
Marvel Cinematic Universe head honcho Kevin Feige hinted at Scarlet Witch’s comeback back in 2022, telling fans, “I’d collaborate with Lizzie for another hundred years if we could… Who knows what might happen in the multiverse? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Despite rumors suggesting she could potentially play a significant role, Olsen herself seems to have ruled out her participation for now, as she mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that she’s not in London at the moment. However, this does not necessarily exclude her from appearing in any of the Avengers films, contrary to what some other websites may claim.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my hope that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool might make an unexpected visit, considering his recent remarks about not being asked to rejoin the MCU. Although Deadpool never had a chance to interact with the original X-Men, his adventure with Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine was unforgettable. And while he returned to his own universe at the finale, who knows if we might see him show up again?
In a statement made in November 2024, Reynolds expressed uncertainty about his return, leaving the decision up to public trust: “I’m not playing games. The future will reveal itself in due time.
Similarly, just as we had anticipated seeing Hugh Jackman back in the role of Wolverine, our dreams were shattered… temporarily. However, there’s speculation that his cancellation of the Hyde Park concert this summer might have been due to Avengers-related matters.
It appears that there might still be some work left to do, so please keep hope alive regarding all the characters mentioned, such as Spider-Man among others.
In simpler terms, Robert Downey Jr posted on Instagram, “That’s what you call a deep pool of talent… well, it’s more like a really long line, if you think about it. But I guess that fits… doesn’t it?”, to which Marvel Studios replied, “There’s always space for more.
Avengers: Doomsday is released in cinemas on May 1, 2026.
