Will Smith has ‘flashbacks’ to his post-apocalyptic movie I Am Legend while walking around deserted streets of Zürich, Switzerland
As a movie enthusiast with over three decades of experiencing various genres and adaptations, I must say that the upcoming sequel to “I Am Legend” is a thrilling prospect for me. Having grown up watching Will Smith’s iconic performance in the original film, it’s fascinating to see him reprising his role and joining forces with the talented Michael B. Jordan.
As he wandered through the deserted avenues of Zurich, Switzerland, it felt strangely familiar to Will Smith, evoking memories of his role in the post-apocalyptic movie “I Am Legend”.
As a seasoned lifestyle enthusiast, I myself took an early-morning stroll through this charming cityscape at the tender age of 55. Intrigued by the quiet serenity that usually bustles with life, I seized the opportunity to capture and share a glimpse of this unusual emptiness with my beloved followers.
“The Oscar-winning actor mentioned a scene from the 2007 classic ‘I Am Legend’. He was searching for ‘Fred’ and commented on what he was up to outside.”
In the film, Smith portrays Robert Neville, a character who discovers a mannequin he nicknames “Fred.” Later, Fred inexplicably appears outside, causing Neville to grow increasingly suspicious and anxious.
Working on a sequel to the movie, he titled the video clip: “Early Morning at 5:30am in Zurich, Switzerland. It’s Beautiful! I’ll be Back.”
The clip starts out with Will enjoying his morning stroll, as he tells fans, ‘Little walk though the streets of Zurich. I’ve never been to Zurich before. This is the first time.’
‘Our plane couldn’t take off so we had to stay the night in Zurich. And it’s all mine.’
‘It is so quiet,’ the Ali star says, while panning the camera to show the desolate streets.
As I’m musing over the tranquility of the moment, a bird’s cheerful tune interrupts me. With a chuckle, I remark, “Even the dogs seem to be appreciating the silence today!”
As he walks by the Limmat River, he captures and shows off tranquil scenes of the river and its beautiful swans.
‘I didn’t realize these were all swans,’ he points out.
He exclaims, “This is a delight for my existence!” As the camera sweeps across, it lands on a window showcasing Swiss Army knives.
‘It’s real. Y’all got it right? It’s Swiss Army knives in Switzerland,’ he jokes.
Towards the end of the video, the performer shows appreciation for the unforeseen quiet moment in the city, saying enthusiastically: “What a treat! I seldom have the chance to leisurely stroll through a city such as this. Thanks, Zurich!”
I Am Legend – this story unfolds in the heart of New York City, where we follow Dr. Neville, a former US Army virologist and the lone human survivor, left standing amidst a pandemic triggered by a genetically engineered virus. This catastrophe transformed the majority of humanity into creatures reminiscent of vampires, with a peculiar habit of being active only during the night.
In his daily life, he’s devoted to finding a remedy, all the while dealing with grief over his family, feelings of solitude, and carefully avoiding the contaminated.
The blockbuster movie blending elements of science fiction and horror, helmed by director Francis Lawrence, draws its inspiration from the 1954 novel with the same title, written by Richard Matheson, though it follows a more general outline rather than a strict adaptation.
I Am Legend was released in December 2007 and earned $585.4 million at the worldwide box office.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my excitement over the latest cinematic rendition of this timeless novel. It’s the third big-screen interpretation, following the 1964 classic “The Last Man on Earth” and the 1971 masterpiece “The Omega Man”. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this adaptation, hoping it would do justice to the original tale.
Right now, they’re working on a follow-up movie with Michael B. Jordan in the cast, who will team up with Will.
Last month, according to People, the 37-year-old actor referred to the movie project as “a project under development.”
“Michael mentioned that they are continuing to refine the script for the project, ensuring it meets their standards, during a promotional event for the Propel Your City Project in collaboration with Propel Fitness Water.”
He mentioned that there’s no set release date or specific details yet about the project, and he’s unsure where they’ll shoot it, but he’s eagerly looking forward to collaborating with Will on-camera.
“For years, I’ve admired Will immensely. It’s a great joy for me to say that I’ll be collaborating with him. I can’t wait for this opportunity,” Michael stated enthusiastically.
Earlier this May, Entertainment Tonight reported that he and Michael had collaborated on a period developing the sequel.
In a conversation with ET, Will expressed his optimism, saying, ‘I believe our plans are shaping up quite well.’ He added that they have some very strong ideas and he’s confident about their collaboration on-screen. He also mentioned that the person he’s working with is genuine, so he’s eager to bring this project to life.
Since early March 2022, there have been reports that the sequel for “I Am Legend” is being developed. In this new installment, Will will be returning to his original role, while Michael has also joined as a leading actor. Both actors are said to be involved in the production process as well.
Akiva Goldsman, a key contributor to the original script and production, has been assigned to pen the upcoming sequel.
To Deadline, renowned Hollywood producer Goldsman shared that the eagerly awaited second movie will follow events similar to the initial Matheson novel and revisit the post-apocalyptic New York setting, approximately several decades after the events of the first film.
