Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wrapped up the story for this beloved team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as director James Gunn finished his work with them and they each went their separate ways. This also marked Gunn’s departure from Marvel, as he moved on to lead DC Studios, leaving the future of the Guardians uncertain. Though the original team survived and a new group of Guardians was formed by the end of the film, it’s currently unknown if they will appear in future Marvel movies and TV shows beyond Phase 6.
The most recent film featured Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, a very powerful character from Marvel Comics. Poulter recently told Variety that he has no idea if he’ll be back in future movies. He explained that he receives no advance notice about returning to the role, and is kept completely unaware of any plans.
Honestly, I’m completely in the dark. And even if I did happen to know something – which I don’t! – I probably wouldn’t be able to talk about it. But truly, I have no inside information at all.
The Guardians of the Galaxy’s Uncertain MCU Future

Disney
Initially presented as an enemy working for the High Evolutionary and Ayesha, Adam Warlock switched sides and helped the Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie ended with him becoming part of the new Guardians team – alongside Rocket, Kraglin, Phyla, Cosmo the Space Dog, and Alpha Groot – dedicated to protecting the universe. However, despite the team being safe, there’s currently no indication of when or if they’ll appear in future adventures.
With James Gunn now working for DC, any future Guardians of the Galaxy stories in the MCU will need a new creative leader. Currently, the only Guardians project not directed or written by Gunn is the I Am Groot short series. This team is strongly linked to Gunn’s unique style – more so than any other Marvel franchise – so many are asking who could successfully guide them forward.
Poulter has repeatedly expressed his eagerness to return as Adam Warlock, telling Marvel he’d love to work with them again over the past three years. He hopes a future appearance would allow him to play a more fully realized hero than he did in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where he only joined the team near the end. This would also give him the chance to explore the character’s intelligence and potential in greater depth.

Fans are curious whether Barry Keoghan’s character, Adam Warlock, will appear in the next one or two Avengers movies. He wasn’t introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe until after the Infinity Saga, so his future is uncertain. However, both Keoghan and fans seem to hope that Adam Warlock’s story will continue.
