Will Layton be able to help the soldiers in the basement in Snowpiercer?

As a seasoned gamer who’s weathered countless storms of narrative twists, I must admit that the latest episode of Snowpiercer, while subdued in action, was a masterclass in building tension and mystery. The eerie atmosphere, coupled with the haunting images of the burned soldiers, had me on the edge of my seat, yearning to unravel the enigma behind their plight.

In contrast to the bustling tempo of the previous episode, Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 6 took a more subdued approach, providing an opportunity for viewers to process the tragic demise of Ben. Yet, it delved deeper into the mysteries surrounding the train’s silo and unveiled past events that shaped its history.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 6

Initially, Layton stood solitarily on a chilly floor. Swiftly, a group of soldiers with burns resembling those from the Animal Squad appeared and assaulted him. However, the circumstances behind this encounter remain unclear for now.

Was this the initial trial run? Given Milius’ affinity for human experimentation, subjecting individuals to testing in a basement setting would undoubtedly be within his realm of action. At present, it’s evident that these soldiers are growing disheartened by the circumstances.

Could Layton save the soldiers in Snowpiercer?

Initially confronted by the military leader, Layton later found him amicable. He invited Layton to join their banquet, which was customary after a sampling event. However, Layton declined, seeking an escape instead.

As soon as Wilford arrives, Layton’s attention shifts towards confronting him. However, things don’t go as planned, and it becomes evident that this is because Wilford turns out to be instrumental in devising an escape plan for their group.

Layton is urging the soldiers to unite with him, but it’s evident that they have been defeated for three long years in their plight. At this stage, it seems they’ve exhausted all possible escape routes, only to be met with failure at every attempt. They are perpetually struggling to secure food, and their bodies are being drained of blood on a regular basis.

Indeed, Layton is well-acquainted with the predicament of being relegated to the rear, as he hails from the Tailie faction. However, it’s crucial to note that the situation for soldiers is far more critical, given their chemical burns. One can only speculate if other parts of their bodies have suffered damage akin to the Animal Squad.

As Alex reaches the basement in the final scene of the episode, it’s possible that the soldier might discover an escape route. Yet, Layton doesn’t have a close enough relationship with them to persuade them to strive for freedom. Instead, Layton is preoccupied with rescuing Liana and returning to New Eden, which could lead him to act selfishly and not make an effort to help them escape.
