Idris Elba might reprise his famous role as DCI John Luther in a follow-up to the 2023 movie, *The Fallen Sun*.

The actor first appeared as the detective when Luther began in 2010, running for five seasons.

In 2023, a new movie was released continuing the story, featuring a serial killer terrorizing London while the detective Luther is imprisoned.

Idris Elba hasn’t played the detective Luther since the Netflix film’s dramatic conclusion, but the show’s creator, Neil Cross, has hinted that a movie sequel could bring him back to the role.

In an interview with *Radio Times*, the actor hinted that his character could return in future installments, saying there’s a very good chance we haven’t seen the last of him.

Cross said he’d be happy to write another film in the series immediately. He explained they intentionally ended the story in a way that allows for a sequel, and sees it as an open invitation to continue the franchise.

Idris Elba recently mentioned that he hasn’t ruled out returning to his role in the crime drama *Luther*. He said the iconic coat is still there, implying the possibility of more to come, and considers the character his most important work, noting he has more story ideas for Luther to explore.

In a 2023 interview with Collider, he revealed that *Luther* became one of the top five most-streamed movies on Netflix – a remarkable success considering it was the first film based on the TV series. He expressed his desire to create another one.
