Will.i.am claims he beat Simon Cowell in the chase for the UK’s next One Direction as he takes a swipe at the mogul ahead of The Voice return
As someone who has spent decades immersed in the ever-evolving world of music and pop culture, I must admit that the news about the potential demise of the chart-topping boyband era hits close to home. I’ve seen it all – from the rise of boybands like NSYNC and Backstreet Boys to the meteoric success of One Direction.
According to Will.i.am, he outmaneuvered Simon Cowell in the race to discover the U.K.’s rising boyband, as he made a pointed comment toward the producer during a preliminary viewing of The Voice.
Earlier this year, Simon Cowell openly mentioned his search for the next musical sensation similar to One Direction, venturing across the country in pursuit of a fresh boy band.
In 2010, the influential music executive assembled Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik as a group on The X Factor, which later conquered the pop scene with their success.
Now, Will.i.am has declared that he’s been ahead this year because his UK singing competition, “The Voice,” is back for its 13th season.
He told TopMob the key difference between himself and the Britain’s Got Talent judge and why he potentially has more of a chance at success than when it comes to finding the next big boyband.
When asked if he had discovered the United Kingdom’s next major boyband, Will.i.am responded with confidence, telling TopMob that he indeed has found them. With a broad smile on his face, he stated: “Yes, I have. What sets me apart from Simon is that I can compose and create the music myself.”
‘He is looking for it, where as I can get in the kitchen and cook it up.’
During a preliminary showing of The Voice, captured by TopMob, Will.i.am exhibited high self-assurance regarding his contestant selections, expressing his belief that he would emerge victorious this year.
Regarding your question about what we might see from him in the show, the “Where Is The Love” singer responded by saying that he intends to emerge victorious this year.
‘There are things that I remember, things that I don’t remember, but I remember winning.
In response to TopMob’s query about whether they had discovered another Taylor Swift, Sir Tom Jones replied: “Not at all. No one can surpass Taylor Swift. She’s extraordinary and unique.”
Just a few weeks following Simon’s extended travel across the country to discover fresh talent, Will.i.am exhibits his self-assurance.
However, even with extensive promotions, the music tycoon was unable to find sufficient potential audition participants for his search, hence he had to abandon it.
Simon, it seemed, had envisioned his search being featured in a Netflix documentary titled “The Midas Touch,” but allegedly received advice to abandon these aspirations and accept that the era of successful boybands dominating the charts has ended.
In a thrilling twist, I find myself eagerly anticipating “The Midas Touch” reimagined journey, delving into the tumultuous unraveling of my idol’s pop dream – none other than the legendary Simon Cowell. The initial concept revolved around his relentless pursuit of tomorrow’s shining stars, but this captivating narrative now promises a glimpse into his own pop fantasy crumbling before our eyes. I can hardly wait!
A source close to The Midas Touch shared with the Daily Mail that ‘Simon has received feedback suggesting a shift is needed in the concept that underlies the series.’
Instead, the emphasis has shifted from forming a successful boyband to primarily centering on him.
He feels exasperated by the auditions, as numerous singers attending seem to be former members of groups that failed to achieve success.
However, it seems particularly significant that Simon may need to accept the possibility that the time of popular boybands might have passed. This news, understandably, is disheartening for him.
As a long-time fan of “The Voice UK,” I am beyond excited about this year’s lineup! The addition of Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones from McFly, along with ’90s pop icon LeAnn Rimes, has truly elevated the show to new heights. While it’s sad to see Ollie Murs no longer on the panel, I am eager to see how these new judges will bring their unique perspectives and talents to the table. Their experience in the music industry, combined with their charisma and energy, promises a fresh and dynamic season that I can’t wait to watch unfold.
The Voice United Kingdom, a well-known British singing reality show, made its debut on the small screen on March 24th, 2012.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must share that the series I’m discussing hails from the original Dutch version of The Voice, affectionately known globally by its simple The Voice.
The format was created by Dutch television producer John de Mol and has since been adapted in numerous countries worldwide.
It is a talent show with a unique twist as the initial rounds are known as the Blind Auditions.
In this setup, the judges have their backs turned towards the competitors during the performances. This allows them to evaluate the contestants strictly on the quality of their voices, ensuring that their judgement remains unbiased and unaffected by any visual cues about the performers’ appearances.
If the coach finds something appealing during the presentation, they’ll activate a button to rotate their seat, indicating their intention to guide that competitor as their mentee.
If multiple coaches swivel their chairs, the contestant has the option to pick the coach they prefer to collaborate with.
It comes as judge of six years, Olly Murs, was unexpectedly axed from the show last year.
The artist known as “The Dear Darling” (aged 40) stated that his management received a notification from ITV executives indicating that they were considering fresh talent for the coaching position on the show, prior to him being removed from it.
As a loyal devotee, I must admit, receiving the news that I wouldn’t be returning to the show left me quite taken aback. To put it frankly, I hadn’t anticipated this turn of events.
‘I believe they’ll discover a wonderful person, no doubt. Yet, I can’t help but feel a sense of loss. Was I ready to depart? Not at all. Will I continue watching the series? Absolutely, yet it will be bittersweet knowing that role could have been mine.’
Meanwhile, Anne-Marie was also dropped from the series before the upcoming 2024 show.
The Voice UK airs Saturday, August, 31, 8pm on ITV1 & ITVX.
