Will Currie is the DWCS Week 4 fighter to watch

As a lifelong MMA enthusiast with a soft spot for underdogs and a keen eye for promising talent, I’ve been following the rise of Will Currie with great interest. Born and bred in London, this middleweight contender has shown remarkable skill and determination throughout his career thus far.

This week marks the fourth installment of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 8. Five bouts from five distinct divisions will take place, offering 10 aspiring fighters an opportunity to potentially earn a UFC contract and compete with the world’s elite. Among these contenders is one to keep your eyes on: Will Currie. On Tuesday, September 3, he steps into the octagon in his quest to become a UFC athlete.

Born and based in London, England, Currie actively participates in the middleweight division. Most recently, he was in action at Cage Warriors 169 on March 30. Currently, he’s on a three-bout victory spree.

In April 2017, Currie started his career in the amateur fighting scene. His first fight ended with an impressive armbar submission win, indicating a promising future for this fighter. Throughout his five-bout journey on the amateur circuit, he remained undefeated. After nearly two years of honing his skills there, Currie felt prepared to step up as a professional fighter.

The “Rise of Champions 7” event occurred in March 2019, and it was during this event that Currie was scheduled to make his professional fighting debut. In his first five professional bouts, Currie remained unbeaten, competing across different promotions such as Cage Warriors. However, Currie suffered his first loss in his entire mixed martial arts career in March 2021 at the Cage Warriors 120 event against current UFC middleweight fighter Christian Leroy Duncan.

Since December 2020, Currie has been consistently featured in the Cage Warriors roster. Over the course of about three and a half years with this promotion, he worked his way up to become a contender for the middleweight title, even though he was unsuccessful in his bid for the championship. Nevertheless, he solidified himself as one of the leading contenders in the Cage Warriors’ 185-pound division. Now, Currie aims to establish himself in the UFC’s middleweight division, and the opportunity to do so will come during week four of Dana White’s Contender Series season eight.

Will Currie looks to make his mark within the UFC

In the September 3rd edition of DWCS, Currie aims to secure a UFC contract by emerging victorious. He’ll enter the UFC Octagon at the UFC APEX with a record of 12 wins and 3 losses, currently on a three-win streak. His most recent victory occurred in March, following his opponent’s retirement at the end of the first round. However, there’s much more than just his record at stake when he steps into the Octagon.

As an ardent fan, I’m excited about Currie aiming to join the prestigious ranks of English MMA legends gracing the UFC octagon. This esteemed group includes the likes of Michael Bisping, Dan Hardy, Arnold Allen, Leon Edwards, Tom Aspinall, and more. With a fresh surge of promising English fighters emerging within the promotion, Currie undoubtedly aspires to be counted among them. The anticipation grows even stronger when the UFC comes to England for a show, providing him with an unparalleled opportunity to fight before his home crowd on the biggest MMA stage.

Apart from this, Currie expresses his eagerness to enter a highly competitive division. Notably, Dricus du Plessis recently secured his 185-pound title reign at UFC 305, making the division a formidable one with many powerful fighters. With Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya currently in the division, it’s an electrifying prospect for any aspiring fighter, a notion that seems appealing to Currie as well.

At DWCS week four, I’m squaring off against Brazil’s Djorden Santos. He’s currently riding high on a four-fight winning streak, with nine wins and just one loss to his name professionally. While most of my victories have been by submission, I’ve shown I can also claim the win via knockout or decision. All that’s left for me now is to step into the ring, aim for a decisive victory, and seal the deal on that UFC contract.

For these reasons and more, Will Currie is the DWCS week four fighter to watch. Don’t miss him and nine other hopefuls in action on Tuesday, September 3.
