The Emmy Awards were a big night for many actors, but Cristin Milioti stood out. She won the award for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her role in *The Penguin*. Audiences and Emmy voters loved her performance as Sofia Gigante. Unfortunately, fans hoping to see her character return in *The Batman Part II* might be disappointed.
MTV recently asked *The Batman Part II* director and co-writer, Matt Reeves, about the possibility of seeing Sofia Milioti’s character in the upcoming film. Reeves confirmed that, sadly, she won’t be appearing. He complimented her performance but explained there was a main reason why it wasn’t feasible.
Cristin isn’t featured in this particular installment because the script was already well-developed by the time we started filming. However, we’re hoping to include her in the future. I think she’s a fantastic actress, and her work on the show was truly amazing.
Okay, so here’s the deal: it looks like Sofia won’t be showing up in the movie, and the reason is a bit of a bummer. Apparently, the script was pretty far along before Sofia really became popular. I know a lot of fans are going to be disappointed – and rightfully so! Some people actually thought *The Penguin* series was even better than *The Batman* itself, and a huge part of that was Alycia Milioti’s performance. Even a small cameo from her would have been amazing for those of us hoping to see some connection to the HBO Max series continued on the big screen.
It appears the storyline for *The Batman Part II* (whose script DC Studios’ James Gunn has now reviewed) doesn’t offer a natural place for the character. That’s likely a good thing, as a pointless inclusion would have been even worse. Director Matt Reeves then continued speaking…
Changing things could really disrupt the plot, considering how the story unfolds and the themes we’re working with. We have some ideas we’d like to try, but ultimately, they just don’t align with the overall narrative.
Matt Reeves hasn’t ruled out bringing Sofia Gigante back for future projects. Although a second season of *The Penguin* wasn’t originally planned, it’s now a possibility, and the actress herself is eager to reprise her role.

HBO Max offers streaming access to popular franchises like The Batman and a wide range of DC content. Monthly plans begin at $9.99 (with ads), and additional options are available for ad-free viewing and access to a vast library of movies, shows, and documentaries. See the deal here.
Originally, several spin-off shows based on The Batman universe were being considered. Now, The Penguin is one of the only ones still in development, but there’s still a chance for more shows – potentially including one featuring Milioti. Matt Reeves seems to like Milioti, and if a role fits, he’s likely to find a way to include her in future projects.
In any case, know that The Batman Part II hits theaters on October 1, 2027.
