Will Carmy and His Family Finally Find Stability in Season 5 of The Bear?

Be cautious! Plot twists from Season 4 of “The Bear” are coming up. Don’t miss out if you haven’t watched it all yet – you can catch up with the series by subscribing to Hulu and streaming it online.

Prior to the airing of the new season of “The Bear” in 2025, I found myself pondering a great deal about the episode titled “Ice Chips.” In that impactful Season 3 episode, we witnessed the character Sugar, portrayed by Abby Elliott, and her mother Donna (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) reconcile. Their relationship started to mend from then on. As we move into Season 4, I was hoping for a similar resolution between characters, specifically Carmy. Now, having watched this unfold on screen, I can’t help but reminisce about Elliott’s aspirations for the Berzatto family.

Prior to catching up on the fourth season of “The Bear,” I had the opportunity to chat with Abby Elliott. Our conversation mainly revolved around her significant episode from the previous season, titled “Ice Chips,” and its impact on Sugar’s life and relationship with her mother. I also inquired whether she foresaw a similar healing journey for Carmy and his mother. In response, Abby shared her thoughts as a cast member of “The Bear.

It appears to me that Sugar has longed for that situation since the very beginning, as evidenced by her repeated questions such as “Have you spoken to mom? Can you handle this?” since the first season’s premiere. Despite their intricate dynamics with their mother, I believe Sugar plays the role of a peacemaker. She yearns deeply for the family she never had and seems somewhat pessimistic about it ever coming true. It’s my belief that her decision to marry someone like Pete was driven by this longing for stability.

Enjoy a fantastic range of content from Hulu, featuring hit shows like “The Bear” and original series such as “Only Murders in the Building”. Meanwhile, Disney+ boasts popular titles such as “Andor” and “WandaVision”. To access all these shows under one roof, consider the combined offering: The Disney+ and Hulu bundle, available for just $10.99 a month. Check it out now!

Absolutely, I share Elliott’s sentiments. It’s heartening to see Sugar, Donna, and Carmy yearn for stability, and they truly deserve it. They show such deep care for one another that it’s inspiring. So, I hope they can navigate their challenges jointly and emerge as a family that’s even stronger and more resilient.

In reality, their bond is quite challenging due to its intense nature. The Berzattos have a strong affection for each other, but they struggle with effective communication. Consequently, they find it difficult to express their emotions healthily. Yet, they’re making significant efforts to improve their communication skills.

Essentially, it was that encounter at the wedding in Episode 7 that eventually paved the way for Carmy and Donna’s reconciliation during this season. In Episode 9, Jeremy Allen White’s character managed to have a heartfelt and healing conversation with his mother after they unexpectedly crossed paths at the wedding.

The scene was just as lovely. Jeremy Allen White’s character prepared food for his mother, she expressed her apology to him, and it seemed they made a significant stride in their healing process. With Season 5 of The Bear approaching, we can hope that Carmy, Donna, and Sugar will eventually form a strong and joyful family unit.

After Carmy departed from the restaurant at the end of Season 4, my mind keeps wandering to potential strains on his relationships moving forward. Although he intends to stay until the restaurant is secure, I can’t help but ponder what everyone’s long-term reactions might be. Will there be feelings of resentment? Will they all embrace this decision? Will they aid the chef in rediscovering his passion and drive again?

The solution remains vague, but regardless of the outcome, I sincerely wish the Berzattos can establish a sense of “solid footing” and stand by one another as they navigate whatever challenges life presents them.
