The eighth season of the TV series 9-1-1 has concluded according to the 2025 schedule, leaving viewers disappointed. The demise of Captain Bobby Nash, portrayed by Peter Krause, is still fresh in fans’ minds, and they continue to wish for more development between characters Buck and Eddie’s friendship, often referred to as “Buddie.” Despite Eddie’s return from Texas, there remains uncertainty if this relationship will blossom into something deeper. Now, the series co-stars Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman are expressing their thoughts on the matter.

Ever since Eddie Diaz, portrayed by Guzman, entered the scene in the second season, viewers have been rooting for a romantic connection between him and Evan “Buck” Buckley. The show has subtly suggested this possibility throughout, even leading some to believe they are parental figures to Christopher. With Buck revealing his sexuality in Season 7, it appeared that a romance was imminent, given the hints about his growing feelings towards his best friend. However, despite these indications, such a development has not yet occurred. Nevertheless, Stark, the series creator, assures fans that if and when it does happen, it will be genuine and well-developed, as conveyed in an interview with Deadline.

In simpler terms, I’m suggesting that if the plot develops in a certain manner, it shouldn’t be solely based on fan demands. Ideally, such a development should occur when it aligns with the appropriate narrative and character growth.

Stark’s argument carries weight, and I share the eagerness of many fans for Buddie’s development. However, it seems prudent to build more foundations first, considering Eddie is still absent. Moreover, Stark expressed his intention to avoid making the relationship feel forced, aiming for a natural fit within the storyline. While there was speculation about a romantic encounter between Buck and Eddie in the Season 8 finale, it didn’t materialize as expected.

Concerning Ryan Guzman, he discussed the unique bond between Buck and Eddie that they share. Interestingly, this connection isn’t necessarily romantic but rather a deep, platonic friendship. Yet, he is aware of the desires of the fans, and he appreciates every bit of it all.

It seems to me that we’ve built something very authentic between us thus far. As Oliver’s character often expresses, there’s a strong bond akin to friendship or brotherhood here. For now, I believe it remains as it is. I can comprehend why fans might interpret our dynamic in this way, and they’ve even developed their own narrative around it. It’s fascinating to see the various interpretations of 9-1-1 that fans have come up with. I appreciate their enthusiasm for their unique perspective on our show.
