Will Atwater get the promotion he deserves in Chicago PD Season 12?
As a longtime fan who’s witnessed the evolution of characters in Chicago PD, I can’t help but feel that Kevin Atwater has been a diamond in the rough. His potential has often been overshadowed by the show’s focus on race and gang-related storylines, but it’s high time he gets his due.
We’re definitely gearing up for the resumption of broadcast TV in the fall. One show we’re eagerly anticipating is Chicago PD, specifically its 12th season, and we’re curious about what will transpire with some of the characters. Let’s delve into Atwater’s storyline now.
It’s been noticed that Kevin Atwater has been significantly underutilized in the series. His character is often associated with race-related and gang-focused plotlines, but lately, some of this responsibility has shifted towards Torres, particularly regarding gangs and drug cartels. To provide more depth to Atwater’s character, a promotion seems necessary, offering us a chance to explore his character further.
Kevin Atwater could get a promotion in Chicago PD Season 12
As reported by TV Insider, there’s speculation that Atwater might advance to a higher rank. This seems desirable for La Royce Hawkins, the actor portraying him, as he recognizes what viewers have – with Upton’s departure, Intelligence no longer has a detective.
It’s high time someone should prepare to apply for the detective exam. Atwater would be an exceptional choice for a detective. Despite experiencing a brief spell of self-questioning during Season 11, he has consistently developed as an officer and an individual. He always prioritizes his team and is adept at finding solutions to crimes that others often overlook. Moreover, he shows courage in challenging the Blue Line, which has historically posed problems for the Black community in Chicago.
Additionally, I’d be keen to explore a character-driven narrative for Atwater in Season 11. Last season, he grappled with the burden of his actions resulting in a victim’s death, a weight that was further intensified by the family’s blame. Yet, his heartfelt desire was to rectify this wrong. However, at one point, it threatened his career. In this upcoming season, I hope we witness him finding peace and releasing that guilt. Instead of dwelling on past mistakes, let’s see him focus more on safeguarding future victims and learning from his errors.
