Will any new Star Trek cover the missing centuries before Star Trek: Discovery season three?
As a die-hard Star Trek fan who has spent countless hours navigating the vast expanse of the final frontier, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and excitement at the prospect of exploring the 26th to 31st centuries. While Discovery has offered us a tantalizing glimpse into this future era, it leaves many unanswered questions and untold stories that I yearn to uncover.
In the finale of Star Trek: Discovery’s second season, the team was compelled to leap into the future to the 32nd century. Since then, the show has been situated nearly a millennium ahead of other Star Trek series and films. This year marked Discovery’s last season, and the upcoming series is Starfleet Academy, also set in the 32nd century.
The film adaptation of Section 31, featuring Michelle Yeoh, won’t take place in a future century due to Philippa Georgiou’s body not being able to survive. Instead, she was time-traveled to an unknown past era. Interestingly, Paramount has unveiled a new comedy series, created by Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien, that will be set in the 25th century. This raises the intriguing possibility: could Star Trek explore the 26th-31st centuries in future installments?
Star Trek: Picard concluded in the 25th century at the year 2401, which leaves a significant time gap before Star Trek: Discovery leaped forward into the 32nd century. Even though we’ve witnessed the future advancements, there remains an expansive era yet to be discovered that many of us eager fans are excited to delve into.
To explore those bygone eras, however, Paramount needs to approve a series that isn’t Star Trek: Legacy, as this one would be set in the 24th century. Personally, I’d be thrilled to witness the evolution of diverse alien life since Captain Seven of Nine assumed command of the new Enterprise. There are countless stories yet untold and so much knowledge to be gained.
Absolutely! Star Trek: Discovery has indeed set certain guidelines for future Star Trek stories, yet there remains a vast expanse of time yet to be explored. While the 32nd century is fascinating, it’s equally thrilling to imagine the development and application of those advanced technologies. We can’t wait to learn more about the fate of The Next Generation crew or where the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine team eventually ended up.
In Star Trek, certain alien species boast remarkable lifespans, allowing them to persist across future centuries. This continuity provides an intriguing connection to earlier episodes. Neglecting these intervening centuries would mean missing out on advanced technologies, freshly discovered alien races, and the unfolding stories of beloved characters who’ve graced the Star Trek universe.
