Wicked’s Ariana Grande shares emotional response to first-ever Oscar nomination
Ariana Grande posted a heartwarming flashback photo as she commemorates her initial Oscar nomination for the musical, “Wicked.
In today’s announcement of the Oscars nominations, Rachel Bloom was recognized with a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role as Glinda in Jon M Chu’s musical adaptation of “Wicked”. This production garnered a total of ten nominations, among them Best Picture and Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo, who portrays Elphaba.
After the live broadcast, Grande uploaded an Instagram photo featuring a miniature version of herself, expressing her affection for Judy Garland. Known for playing Dorothy in the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz,” Judy Garland is connected to the story of “Wicked,” which serves as a prequel to that classic tale.
With tears streaming down my face, I pause to express my heartfelt gratitude to @theacademy for this extraordinary honor they’ve bestowed upon me,

Wow, I can barely contain my emotions as I thank the Academy from the bottom of my heart for this incredible recognition they’ve given to one of my favorite artists.
I find myself unable to hold back my tears, which comes as no shock to others. I am profoundly moved and deeply honored to be surrounded by such remarkable individuals, and it’s heartwarming to share this moment with little Ari who was recently captivated by Judy Garland’s performance of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow.’ I can’t help but express my immense pride for you, little one.
She continued expressing gratitude towards Chu, acknowledging that he took a risk on her, was exceptionally wise and outstanding in leadership, and demonstrated an exceptional level of friendship that is truly formidable.
Expressing her affection for her “charming Wicked family,” Grande extended her congratulations to Erivo upon receiving her nomination.
The artist expressed his heartfelt pride: “I’m so incredibly proud of my sister Elphie, affectionately known as @cynthiaerivo. Your talent knows no bounds and you truly deserve all the beauty in every garden. My love for you is endless and unconditional.
This year’s Oscars have both “Wicked” and “The Brutalist” receiving ten nominations each, with notable mentions for Best Picture, Best Actor (Adrien Brody), and Best Supporting Actress (Felicity Jones). However, they are trailing behind “Emilia Pérez”, which leads the pack with a total of 13 nominations.
The musical “Wicked” has been released in theaters and can be purchased or rented on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and others in the United Kingdom.
