Wicked’s Ariana Grande breaks silence on musical cameos

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that watching the Wicked movie was like stepping into a whole new realm of cinematic magic! The cameos by original stars Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth were simply enchanting, adding an extra layer of nostalgia to this modern retelling.

Wicked movie spoilers follow.

Wicked star Ariana Grande has opened up on filming the movie’s special cameos.

The currently showing film in UK theaters is adapted from a prize-winning Broadway musical that premiered in 2003, featuring Idina Menzel from “Frozen” as Elphaba (also known as the Wicked Witch of the West), and Kristin Chenoweth first portraying Glinda the Good Witch.

In the film “Wicked” directed by Jon M Chu, the characters Glinda and Elphaba are portrayed by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, respectively. However, the director cleverly incorporated roles for the original cast members Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. They make an appearance during a musical sequence as the two witches embark on their journey into the enchanted land of Oz.

In an interview with People Magazine, Grande expresses that it was almost unbelievably special for her to collaborate with them on their joint performance. To create skits alongside them, witness their singing talents, and see their comedic acts was truly a remarkable experience.

Menzel and Chenoweth portray duo characters in a group that sings and dances from the Emerald City, telling the story of the Wizard’s thrilling expedition to Oz by performing to an energetic crowd on the city streets.

As an ardent admirer, I stood among the throng, eagerly watching as Menzel and Chenoweth warmly welcomed the witches and skillfully led them closer to the Wizard’s abode, preparing us all for our highly anticipated audience with him.

The same musical sequence also features cameos from Wicked musical creators Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman who are seen briefly dressed up as Ozian citizens.

During a recent chat with Andy Cohen on the show “Watch What Happens Live”, Chenoweth was coy when asked about her and Menzel’s cameos, choosing to keep the details under wraps.

“How hard was it keeping it a secret,” asks Cohen, to which she replies: “What?”

“Oh yes,” she smiles knowingly, adding: “It continues to be hard, people should just go and see.”

Wicked: Part One is out now in UK cinemas.
