“Wickedly entertaining” dark crime drama with a twist gets new UK streaming home

A new crime drama, Gotham, is now available to stream in the UK. The show stars Ben McKenzie, known from The OC, as a young James Gordon, exploring his first years working as a detective in the Gotham City Police Department.

This series, which takes place in the world of Batman, explores the unsolved case of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha, and how they died.

Fans on IMDb are calling Gotham a fresh and exciting reimagining of Gotham City, and are praising it as a wildly enjoyable show.

Gotham, a series from Bruno Heller – the creator of The Mentalist – is now available on Prime Video.

You can currently watch all 100 episodes of the five seasons on the streaming service. Plus, the spin-off series Pennyworth – which tells the origin story of Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth – is also available there.

Joining Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, the show Gotham features David Mazouz as a young Bruce Wayne, Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, and Erin Richards as Barbara Kean.

Camren Bicondova plays Selina Kyle, who later becomes Catwoman, and Robin Lord Taylor portrays Oswald Cobblepot, better known as The Penguin. Corey Michael Smith plays Edward Nygma, also known as The Riddler, completing the trio of future villains.

James Gunn’s DC Universe is still looking for an actor to play Batman in the upcoming reboot, titled The Brave and the Bold.

Alan Ritchson, known for his role in Reacher, recently spoke about the possibility of him playing Batman in a future movie or series.

The actor told Variety in August that while there have been discussions about him potentially playing Batman, he doesn’t believe he’ll be taking on the role. He wants to be upfront and doesn’t want to give fans the wrong impression.

Robert Pattinson most recently portrayed the superhero in the 2022 film The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves. The movie featured Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin, a role Farrell later revisited in a separate series.
