Having grown up with the original Broadway production, I can confidently say that this movie adaptation has truly captured the magic and enchantment of the story. The box office success is just the icing on the cake, making it the third biggest domestic debut of the year!

As a gaming enthusiast who also enjoys a good musical, I can’t help but share my excitement about the recent box-office success of the film adaptation of this popular stage show. According to what I’ve read in Variety, it holds the record for the biggest US opening for any Broadway adaptation, making it a must-watch for fans like myself!
With a weekend box office revenue of $114 million from 3,888 theaters, “Wicked” has cemented its position as the third highest domestic opening of the year to date. It trails slightly behind the record-breaking debuts of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which earned $211 million, and “Inside Out 2,” with a take of $154 million.
Worldwide, the film “Wicked” has grossed an impressive $50.2 million at the box office, boosting its total earnings to a staggering $164.2 million. This makes it the largest global opening for a movie adapted from a Broadway production.
Under the guidance of director Jon M Chu, the musical production titled Wicked features Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in the main roles as Elphaba and Glinda respectively, portraying these characters before they are recognized as the infamous Wicked Witch of the West and the benevolent Witch of the North.
The production boasts a renowned ensemble, featuring Jonathan Bailey from Bridgerton (Fiyero), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), Peter Dinklage known for Game of Thrones (Dr Dillamond), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard of Oz), and Keala Settle, a star from The Greatest Showman (Miss Coddle).
As a captivated admirer, I’d like to share that Digital Spy bestowed four stars upon the movie, commending the exceptional performance of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Galinda. Their portrayals truly live up to the iconic roles they embody.
