Wicked sets another impressive record with digital release

Wicked has set another impressive record during its first week of digital release.

The smash-hit musical, “Wicked,” has garnered numerous awards at the box office, solidifying its status as the most successful Broadway adaptation ever made. With earnings surpassing $600 million globally, this musical was recently launched on digital platforms and shattered another record in its first week alone.

Based on Variety’s report, “Wicked” generated $26 million on its debut day and amassed a total of $70 million within its first week of digital release in the United States and Canada. These earnings broke records by making “Wicked” the Universal production with the highest initial daily sales and opening week box office revenue.

On December 31, 2024, “Wicked” was made available digitally in the United States and Canada. It then became accessible in the UK on January 3, 2025.

This version of the streaming includes a sing-along edition of the film, along with 10 cut or extended scenes, plus an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into the production of Wicked.

Instead of opting for the digital version of the musical, you might choose to own a hard copy instead. You can pre-order this in various formats such as DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K Ultra HD in the UK. Unfortunately, at present, the 4K Steelbook is out of stock across Amazon, HMV, and other retailers.

Even though people could stream “Wicked” at home, the film still earned an additional $10 million in U.S. theaters during its eighth week on screen.

I can’t wait to catch the upcoming big-screen release of “Wicked: For Good” in theaters on November 21! This second part promises to be as enchanting and captivating as the first, and I’m totally here for it!

In the musical “Wicked: For Good,” Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum will once again take on their respective characters of Elphaba, Glinda, Fiyero, Madame Morrible, and The Wizard.

The musical “Wicked” has hit theaters and can be purchased or rented on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store, among others, in the United Kingdom.
