"Wicked" gets character posters and a new way to pick sides in Oz with Monopoly

“Our paths did cross”

As a long-time fan of musical theatre and a self-proclaimed Wicked enthusiast, I must say that this new cast for the upcoming film adaptation has me absolutely thrilled! Growing up, I remember watching the original Broadway production multiple times, and Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba and Ariana Grande’s Glinda have been two of my favorite characters ever since.

According to the Today show’s online post, fresh video emerges of stars portraying their favorite Broadway personas. Cynthia Erivo receives praise such as “what a gift” and “she’s sensational,” from the hosts. Regarding Ariana Grande playing Galinda (later known as Glinda), one observer shares the sentiment many have: “I am eagerly anticipating this.

The main characters are shown in vivid scenes: Cynthia Erivo is not near the picturesque Emerald City; instead, she’s holding her famous broomstick and surrounded by flying monkeys. Simultaneously, Ariana Grande arrives on a bubble, a sight familiar to fans of “The Wizard of Oz,” and she even dons a version of Glinda’s ornate pink gown.

Among the freshly unveiled character posters, there’s a delightful array of new faces I can’t wait to see strut their stuff. Each character might have a smaller part, but trust me, they all contribute significantly to the captivating narrative of this upcoming musical!

As I immerse myself in the captivating world of Wicked, I find myself embodying Madame Morrible – the seemingly respectable educator who harbors a darker side. Initially, she dismisses and underestimates young Elphaba, but as events unfold, she ascends to become the Wizard’s press secretary.

Jonathan Bailey portrays Fiyero, initially depicted as a carefree playboy. His main song, “Dancing Through Life,” expresses that he sees life as filled with peril when you act without thought, and claims that troubles are temporary, while blows barely touch you when you’re dancing through life. However, he learns not just to feel compassion, but also to act on it as he forms a friendship and develops loyalty towards an outcast.

Marissa Bode is recognized as Nessarose, the younger sister of Elphaba. Due to the unusual “frog-like, leafy vegetable” appearance of Elphaba at birth, their mother administers medication that affects her second child, causing Nessarose to be wheelchair-bound from an early age. Despite this, she pursues education and strives for a meaningful life, as she is expected to become the governorship nepotism candidate of Munchkinland.

Boq, played by Ethan Slater, was once smitten with Glinda, but instead shows kindness and affection towards Nessarose. She is keen on their relationship, yet Boq, being kind-hearted, can’t bring himself to shatter her dreams.

In one of his iconic characters, Peter Dinklage portrayed Tyrion Lannister with the line, “I drink, and I know things.” His selection for the role of Doctor Dillamond aligns perfectly with this persona. At Shiz University, where he serves as a goat professor, Dr. Dillamond advocates against animal oppression in Oz. He informs Elphaba that across the land, intelligent creatures like himself are being barred from any activity demonstrating their equal capabilities to humans.

Before Glinda develops a relationship with Elphaba, she has two sycophants, Pfannee and Shenshen, portrayed by Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James. These reprehensible followers are the ones who inspire Glinda to give an ugly hat to her most hated person, which eventually becomes Elphaba’s trademark accessory. However, we’re relieved when Glinda moves past them.

The wonderful man behind the Wizomania is played by none other than Jeff Goldblum. This Wizard is the one who says that “Where I come from, people believe all sorts of things that aren’t true. We call it history.” He has no magic of his own and is threatened by those who will not use magic for his agenda. This casting is therefore brillian..

Do not pass the Emerald City, do not collect 200 Ozian Coins

In the meantime, you can bring a touch of the magic from the musical “Wicked” into your home with a special Monopoly edition. Choose from tokens like Glinda’s crown and the wizard’s Green Elixir. Instead of buying Park Place or the B&O Railroad, landing on Madame Morrible’s residence or the Wizomania Theater could be more rewarding!

On your properties, you have the option to construct either Munchkin Houses or Emerald Castles. Cards grant you abilities such as defying gravity or bestowing things quintessentially of Oz. It’s now up for pre-order at a price of $29.99.

In just about two and a half months, we’ll get to visit the Enchanted Emerald City for a single day, and I’m certain there are many thrilling moments ahead of us before that time arrives.
