Frances Hannon, the makeup and hair artist for the movie Wicked: For Good, explained that Ariana Grande’s character, Glinda, wore dramatic false eyelashes intentionally.
When working on Ariana Grande’s makeup, we focused a lot on defining her eyes,” explained makeup artist Hannon to Allure. “I wanted her lashes to really make her eyes stand out and give her a more mature look, especially with her lighter hair color. I think it worked really well to bring her eyes forward.”
The transformation is delicate, but she definitely appears more mature. We avoided dramatic eyeshadow or bold colours, focusing instead on enhancing her lashes and bringing out the natural depth of her eyes.

She explained that she aimed for a classic look by using soft, understated colors and keeping the eyebrows natural and not overly shaped. She hoped this would create a timeless feel.
Since the release of Wicked: For Good, many fans on TikTok have expressed disappointment with Glinda’s overly dramatic eyelashes. Some viewers feel they’re distracting and don’t fit with the film’s setting, arguing they wouldn’t exist in the world of The Wizard of Oz.

Another person pointed out that the false eyelashes weren’t applied well, saying, “In every close-up of Ariana Grande, the inner corners are lifting and peeling off.”
Okay, so people were talking about Glinda’s makeup, but honestly, Wicked: For Good has been a huge hit since it came out last month on November 21st. It made a crazy $150 million in the US alone during its opening weekend, and over $226 million worldwide – I saw the numbers on CNN, it’s insane!
This month, Wicked: For Good has officially surpassed $400 million at the global box office, earning over $407 million worldwide by Wednesday, December 3rd, according to Deadline.

Critics have had a mixed reaction to the movie Wicked: For Good, giving it a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Our review gave the movie three stars, praising it as an engaging and emotional experience, but finding it didn’t quite live up to the original. We felt the first film did a better job of building on the musical source material.
The follow-up starts strong, but it doesn’t consistently deliver enough to be truly successful.
Wicked: For Good is out now in cinemas.
The latest issue of Living Legends is now available, and it’s dedicated to the incredible Dolly Parton! You can find “Dolly at 80” in newsagents or order it online for only £8.99.
