Wicked: For Good teaser shows sneak peek at Ariana Grande performing new songs… which leaves fans ‘sobbing’

Ariana Grande might be hinting at a new tune for the widely-loved musical, and her eager fans are struggling to keep their emotions in check.

On Wednesday, the 32-year-old vocalist shared a sneak peek of the upcoming sequel, titled “Wicked: For Good,” on Instagram.

The initial scene of the clip finds Ariana, portraying Glinda, amidst performers dressed in teal suits and pink shirts.

There is slight musical accompaniment as she signs  several documents and sings ‘good good good.’

The setting appears quite different from typical stage musicals, and the melody doesn’t resonate with devoted fans, causing many to speculate that it might be a hint at a fresh tune instead.

In the eagerly awaited sequel, you’ll find two fresh tunes composed by none other than the original lyricist and composer of ‘Wicked’, Stephen Schwartz. So, fans of the Broadway musical can rest easy knowing these new songs are in good hands.

Regarding the addition of fresh tunes, the 77-year-old composer for the American musical theater earlier said to The Messenger: “The narrative demanded them, so they were crafted – the aim was for them to grow naturally within the film rather than being forced onto it.

We’ve got some fresh elements that we believe fans will appreciate. Our aim is to ensure that those who hold our story and show dear won’t be disappointed, but rather, they’ll be delighted by the new additions, innovative film techniques, and overall experience.

Simultaneously, in a fresh preview, Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, is shown reconnecting with Glinda following their parting in the concluding scene of the initial movie.

There is also a hint of tension between Glinda and her boyfriend Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).

Enthusiasts inundated the Instagram post featuring a teaser with comments like: ‘I’ll be crying throughout the entire viewing!’ or ‘The entire duration will have me shedding tears.’

Some people think the brief video is sufficient evidence that the sequel will surpass the acclaim of the Academy-nominated original film.

One commenter expressed, ‘The sequel appears to be even more captivating than the original film,’ whereas another replied with a touch of surprise, ‘I find it hard to believe that this could surpass part 1, which I consider the greatest movie ever made [shocked emoji].’

The latest clip has been released, following the announcement that Ariana will be officially returning to touring.

One day after posting cryptic hints on social media, the artist behind God Is a Woman officially announced the tour within just 24 hours afterwards.

She labeled her Instagram post with ‘See you next year ♡’, indicating to her followers the date when pre-sale tickets will be available.

Ariana Grande resumes touring for the first time after parting ways with real estate broker Dalton Gomez in 2023, following a successful year in the movie industry.

The performer gained prominence in Hollywood after she played the lead role in the movie version of the popular Broadway show Wicked, where she initially became famous as a singer.

 The announcement also represents a change in tune for Grande. 

Late last year, she told Variety that a tour wasn’t on the horizon, given her focus on acting

At that point, she expressed her deep appreciation for performing, stating that her followers understand it’s an essential aspect of her life. However, she didn’t foresee a return to the stage happening in the near future.

Over the last few years, the Grammy winner has focused more on her acting career, but she wants to clarify to her fans that she hasn’t given up on music.

In a post on Instagram in July, she stated clearly that it’s quite presumptuous for everyone to think that because she has a lot on her plate, she intends to leave singing and music behind!

This has always been an essential part of my life, and I want to ensure there’s enough space for it all, even though it might not take the same form as before. In my imagination, it looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to see how it manifests in reality. I’m enjoying this journey immensely, feeling deeply grateful, exhilarated, and motivated.

Ariana suggested that there might be a tour coming up, as she mentioned she’s working on preparing songs for her fans to enjoy in the following year. Currently, she is focusing on striking a balance.

She explained that she’s striving to harmonize her passion for multiple projects and pursuits, while maintaining her unique approach. As a result, she’s devising a strategy to perform for everyone next year, even if it’s a brief performance.
