Wicked fans get update as star breaks silence on “absolutely crazy” Dorothy rumour

The actor, who’s been whispered to take on the role of Dorothy Gale for Wicked’s sequel, has addressed the buzz surrounding the casting news.

14-year-old actress Alisha Weir has gained recognition in the film adaptation of “Matilda: The Musical“, as well as “Abigail” and another titled but distinctly different production called “Wicked Little Letters“. For some time now, rumors have been circulating that she might play Dorothy in the upcoming production of “Wicked: For Good“.

When an Irish broadcaster RTÉ inquired about the rumors connecting her to the beloved character from The Wizard of Oz during the IFTA Awards, she responded: “Upon hearing the speculation, I found it utterly preposterous and it spiraled out of control on social media with everyone wanting to know… Frankly, that would be delightful.

I absolutely adore the musical “Wicked” and had the pleasure of watching it with my family for the first time. I’m also a huge fan of director Jon Chu, as well as Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. It would be fantastic if they were to work together on another project like that!

It’s unknown if she is in “Wicked: For Good,” but Saoirse Ronan, who has publicly endorsed Weir, went as far as inviting her on stage during one of her award ceremonies and expressing her belief that Weir will achieve great things in the future.

Ronan mentioned that he just met Alisha tonight, but he believes we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the future, as he invited her up on stage.

One individual not featured in the duology is Lin-Manuel Miranda, who lately disclosed the character he desired and expressed his views on not being selected for the role.

On November 22, 2025, Wicked will be released. In the meantime, you can purchase or stream it on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and others available in the UK.
