'Wicked' dolls' packaging includes link to a porn site. Mattel apologizes

As a seasoned movie-goer with a knack for uncovering hidden gems and a parent of two curious kids, I must say this latest blunder by Mattel left me both amused and dismayed. The misprint on the “Wicked” doll packaging, leading unsuspecting customers to an adult film website, is an unexpected twist in the tale of these beloved characters.

Mattel, the toy company, has issued an apology over a printing error found on their “Wicked” doll product packaging, which inadvertently displayed the address of an adult website.

Over the weekend, it was found that a mistake had caused the link for the movie to spread rapidly on social media. The incorrect address, wickedmovie.com, led unsuspecting viewers to Wicked Pictures, a company specializing in adult films.

In a statement, Mattel acknowledged an error on the packaging of their Wicked collection dolls sold mainly in the U.S., where the instructions were mistakenly directing consumers to the wrong website (WickedMovie.com instead of the intended official page). The company expressed regret for this oversight and immediately took steps to correct the issue.

The goods were planned to align with the much-awaited Universal movie. The containers housed dolls of Elphaba and Glinda. In this film, Cynthia Erivo portrays Elphaba, while Glinda is played by Ariana Grande.

Yesterday emerged reports of an intriguing blunder concerning the upcoming movie, which was followed by a gathering of stars like Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jennifer Lopez, alongside Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who were part of the original Broadway sensation. The event took place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, with the movie, helmed by John M. Chu, slated to hit cinemas on November 22nd.

On Sunday, Mattel’s line of dolls was withdrawn from stores like Target (one of their partners in the movie) and Walmart, among others, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The manufacturer has warned parents that a faulty, inappropriate website, due to a printing error, should not be accessed by children. If you’ve already purchased the item, they suggest either disposing of the product packaging or covering up the link. For more details, you can reach out to Mattel Customer Service.
