Wicked director Jon M Chu lines up unexpected new movie
Director Jon M Chu, known for his work on “Wicked”, is planning an unforeseen venture in the world of animation, as he prepares to delve into this captivating artistic medium.
The director, known for his work on both “Crazy Rich Asians” and “In the Heights”, has a history with musical films. It appears that he is set to carry on this trend, as reported by “The Hollywood Reporter”, as he will be directing “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”.
Drawing inspiration from Dr. Seuss’ 1990 children’s book about a young character experiencing life’s highs and lows, our forthcoming project is poised to become an animated journey. Jill Culton is set to share the directorial duties for this film with Chu.
Reportedly, Rob Lieber is set to write the screenplay, while Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for their work on “La La Land,” “The Greatest Showman,” and “Dear Evan Hansen,” are ready to compose the unique tunes.
Moreover, it’s been announced that the release of the movie is scheduled for March 17, 2028. You can expect this film to grace the largest IMAX screens. At present, there’s no information available about the cast or crew, so stay tuned for further updates.
Even though Dr. Seuss’s “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” hasn’t reached the big screen just yet, fans of director Ang Lee won’t find themselves without content as “Wicked: For Good” – the second part of the adaptation of the Broadway musical – is slated for release in November.
Initially released, the film generated massive financial and critical acclaim, earning an impressive box office revenue of more than $700 million. Additionally, the music associated with it garnered attention during award ceremonies, securing ten nominations for the upcoming 97th Academy Awards.
As Chu completes the final details on the sequel, the filmmaker recently disclosed that the team was astonished when Cynthia Erivo performed ‘Defying Gravity’ live on set. Reminiscing about the moment, they said: “She prolonged the note, and it reverberated through this massive warehouse as she floated in mid-air.
We’re providing her with leaves and wind, yet it’s puzzling how sounds are reaching her respiratory system as we’re merely blowing air at her. Nevertheless, she persists, holding it throughout, followed by a profound silence once she finishes… The entire crew is moved to tears.”
This version maintains the original meaning and style but uses more natural and easy-to-read language.
Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is scheduled to be released in cinemas on March 17, 2028.
