Why Yes, Robert Downey Jr. And Timothée Chalamet Have A Barbenheimer-esque Name For Avengers: Doomsday And Dune: Part Three’s Release

A few years ago, the simultaneous release of Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer – dubbed “Barbenheimer” – became a huge cultural moment, with both films proving incredibly popular. Now, we have another potentially big double feature coming with Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday, and it seems Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet have come up with a fantastic name for it.

Details about the next Avengers movie, currently known as Doomsday, are scarce. However, the third Dune film could potentially challenge its box office dominance. Despite the potential competition, the stars seem friendly. A recent TikTok video showed Robert Downey Jr. at a screening of Marty Supreme, where he shared a nickname he and Timothée Chalamet created for each other.

We’ve decided on a fun promotional idea! Since both our films are opening on December 18th, we’re calling it “Dunesday.” Hopefully, we’ll still be on good terms after the release! It’s a perfect fit, considering his name, and we thought it would be a catchy way to promote both movies.

Honestly, ‘Dunesday’ is a really clever name. It’s a simple twist on the upcoming Avengers title and just sounds good when you say it. ‘Barbenheimer’ was more awkward to say, even though it perfectly captured the contrast between the two films.

Details about Dune: Part Three are still scarce, but it’s expected to adapt the novel Messiah. Following the events of Dune 2, where Paul Atreides seized power and initiated the foreseen Holy War, fans are excited to see where the story goes next. It will be particularly interesting to watch Paul’s descent into a more villainous role and to see what part Zendaya’s character, Chani, plays in the unfolding events.

Disney+ offers a streaming library with popular content like Marvel, Star Wars, and more. You can start watching with ads for as little as $11.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, it’s $18.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 for a full year. Check out the deal here!

It will be interesting to see how Dunes: Part Two performs in theaters. Marvel films aren’t the automatic box office hits they used to be, as we saw with the disappointing performance of The Marvels. Dune and Barbie are both action-filled movies based on well-known properties, which means they could end up competing for audiences at the box office.

Robert Downey Jr. playfully suggested the rivalry between their films might damage his friendship with Timothée Chalamet. However, it appears they’re on good terms and optimistic that both Doomsday and Dune 3 can succeed at the box office.

The mysteries will be solved when Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three premiere in theaters on December 18th, as part of the 2026 film lineup. It will be interesting to see how these two films perform against each other at the box office.
