Screenwriter Dana Fox shared that a scene from Wicked: For Good was removed because it was considered too intense for its romantic and beautiful nature. In an interview with Deadline, Fox, who co-wrote the screenplay with Winnie Holzman, explained that she regretted having to cut this particular moment from the second part of the film.
We made the right choices with all our cuts; I don’t regret removing anything. There’s some great footage that didn’t make the final cut, and it’ll be available in the deleted scenes, I’m sure.
There’s a scene that might not make the final cut. It involved a kiss between Fiyero and Glinda – it was a very romantic and beautiful moment, but ultimately felt a bit too intense.

Watching him choose Elphaba was painful, and it was difficult to accept that she left with him. The genuine connection between him and Glinda was just too obvious and upsetting.
Fox explained that he genuinely felt love for her, and he emphasized that he cares for Glinda deeply. “Just to be clear,” he added.

He has different feelings for her, but that scene felt too romantic. They worried viewers would be devastated if he didn’t end up with her, and might even blame the characters Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero. Ultimately, removing the scene was a good decision because it was just too sweet to leave in.
Since Wicked: For Good came out in UK cinemas on November 21st, the cast and crew have been sharing interesting stories about making the movie. Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda, recently told the Shut Up Evan podcast that director Jon M Chu had to convince the filmmakers to keep one particular scene in the film.

Ariana Grande recalled the emotional scene where Glinda and Elphaba share a farewell in the castle. She explained it was a difficult day on set, and some people suggested cutting the scene. However, director Jon M. Chu firmly insisted it stay in the film, believing it was essential to the movie’s core.
She explained how much she appreciated his strong support of those genuine, heartfelt scenes. She felt they were among the most beautiful and meaningful parts of both films, and she was thankful they were included. It was a difficult and emotionally challenging experience.
