Frauds, the new heist drama featuring Jodie Whittaker and Suranne Jones, begins on ITV this weekend. However, this role might show us a different side of Doctor Who and Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker.
This six-part series follows Sam (Whittaker) and Bert (Jones), who reconnect after ten years. Bert is released from prison due to compassionate grounds.
Even though Sam had been living a peaceful life for a while, she feels compelled to reconnect with an old friend. The chance to pull off a heist worth millions of pounds gives them the perfect reason to rekindle their friendship and work together again. This opportunity serves as a catalyst, bringing them back together after a period of separation. The heist is the key to reviving their bond.

The much-anticipated series, created by Jones and Anne-Marie O’Connor, is set to premiere on Sunday (October 5th). Whittaker has generated buzz, sharing that audiences will witness a new facet of her character.
[Suranne is] keenly aware that other actresses are eager to take on roles that are significantly different from their usual on-screen personas, or that allow them to demonstrate their versatility,” she explained (as reported by RadioTimes).

The actor, who has also appeared in One Night and Toxic Town, continued by talking about her collaboration with Jones, sharing: “We haven’t worked together because there’s not many things that have this kind of dynamic at the forefront.
However, I want to emphasize that, with much of our previous work, ‘fun’ wouldn’t be the main focus. This project felt completely different though […] It’s fantastic to work in a field where we can just experiment and try new things without constraints… I was confident we’d all have a great experience.
Besides Whittaker and Jones, the impressive ensemble cast of Frauds also features Christian Cooke, Horacio Colomé, Talisa Garcia, Elizabeth Berrington, Lee Boardman, Abdul Salis, Kate Fleetwood, and Karan Gill.

Described as a “complex and addictive story of friendship, deception and survival”, Frauds features Jones with a more significant role not just in front of the camera, but also as an executive producer. The actor had previously shared her enthusiasm for this project.
“The last two years working on Frauds with Anne-Marie and Monumental have been quite an adventure,” she explained. “We flipped the typical story of difficult female friendships and used it to add real emotional depth to the heist story.”
Frauds premieres on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday 5 October.
