Why UK audiences are missing out as 28 Years Later drops on Netflix

Now that 28 Years Later is available on Netflix in the US, viewers in the UK are wondering when it will arrive there. The newest installment in the popular horror series was released in theaters over the summer and quickly became a success, initially earning a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes (it’s currently at 89%). The film has also earned over $151 million worldwide on a budget of around $60 million.

People in the US can now stream the movie on Netflix, but those in the UK will have to wait before it becomes available there.

The film is now available on Netflix because Sony, the studio that made *28 Days Later*, has an agreement with the streaming service. This deal means Netflix is the first place to stream Sony films, starting three months after they’re released in theaters. Since the movie came out in the US on June 20th, that three-month period has now passed.

Unlike other countries, the UK doesn’t have a similar agreement, so viewers in Britain won’t be able to watch it on Netflix in the near future.

New Sony films typically become available for streaming on Sky and NOW (with a Sky Cinema subscription), but it usually takes about six to seven months after their cinema release.

It’s likely that the UK won’t get *28 Years Later* on Sky or NOW until December of this year, or possibly as late as January 2026. Watch out for it around the holidays!

Despite the downsides, you can still watch the film now in the UK! It’s available for purchase digitally on platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV+.

Digital Spy gave 28 Years Later a four-star review, calling it a strong horror sequel that unfortunately loses its way towards the finish.

We noted the film delivers a gripping and frightening experience, reminiscent of the intensity and impact of 28 Days Later.

The series will continue with two more movies, starting with *The Bone Temple*, which will be released in theaters early next year. A first look at the movie is available in a new trailer now.

Nia DaCosta will direct the next installment, and then Danny Boyle, who directed *28 Years Later*, will return to direct a third film. Cillian Murphy is expected to reprise his role as Jim in both sequels.

Boyle hinted to IGN that the character appears in the second installment, playfully adding that he shouldn’t reveal too much or he’d be in trouble.

You can now purchase ’28 Years Later’ digitally on Prime Video and Apple TV+ in the UK. In the US, it’s available to stream on Netflix.
