Why two of Sydney’s most glamorous socialites AREN’T speaking after a sudden marriage split – and there’s a twist that has in the ‘in crowd’ buzzing

There’s a saying that ‘men come and go, but friendship lasts a lifetime’.

Sadly for Harriet Williams, a prominent social figure, she has endured the double tragedy of losing her husband and closest confidante within the same year, which has become quite a topic among the residents of the eastern suburbs.

For quite some time, Harriet shared a close bond with another popular figure, Mel Coates, similar to best friends. However, following her separation from Andy El Bayeh, an unexpected turn of events has led to the dissolution of their long-standing friendship.

Mel wasn’t involved in the dissolution of the marriage. However, rumors suggest that she supported the husband during the divorce, which resulted in a severe rift between her and Harriet that couldn’t be mended.

Or:

Mel didn’t play a role in the ending of the marriage. Nonetheless, it’s been said that she took the husband’s side in the divorce, causing a deep-rooted disagreement with Harriet that proved impossible to reconcile.

In instances where couples part ways, it’s common for friends to align themselves with one party or the other. However, what captivates us in Mel and Harriet’s situation is the remarkable closeness they shared prior to their falling out.

And the fact Mel officiated at Harriet and Andy’s $1million wedding in March 2022.

In the August of last year, my longtime partner, Andy who’s a publicist, and I, a kinesiologist, unexpectedly parted ways while we were on a trip across Europe.

The popular eastern suburbs couple had been husband and wife for just two years.

The division among Sydney’s high society was evident during that period, as their seemingly blissful photos on Instagram, taken while vacationing in Greece and Italy, gave no hint of any problems in their relationship.

Two weeks prior to our breakup making news, I shared a heartwarming photo with Harriet at the Mykonos wedding of our friends, Mario Kalpou and Danielle Louise.

No reason for the separation was given.

Speaking from my perspective as a lifestyle expert, I must share some insight into Harriet’s friendship with Mel. Sources close to the situation suggest that their bond has seemingly run its course. Previously inseparable, they have mutually decided to unfollow each other on Instagram. Interestingly, Mel continues to follow another friend, Andy, suggesting a possible shift in her social circle dynamics.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted both women for comment.

Andy serves as the chief creative officer and founder at the creative agency known as Example, contrastingly, Harriet is a kinesiologist working at Inner Remedy and hails from an affluent background in Sydney.

For four years, Andy, formerly Merivale’s Marketing Director, was romantically involved with Harriet, eventually deciding to get married.

He devised a complex strategy for proposing to Harriet, masking his intentions as his 31st birthday celebration and then transforming the gathering into an engagement party.

I had the pleasure of witnessing an extraordinary event when my beloved pet, Max, was part of a heartfelt moment. After I adorned him with a collar bearing the significant query, “Will you marry me?” Andy, it seemed, had thoughtfully included our furry friend in his romantic proposal.

‘I completely lost my composure,’ Harriet previously told Vogue Australia of the proposal.

In March 2022, the couple exchanged vows during a grand, three-day wedding in the Southern Highlands, held amidst the beauty of a forest. It was said that this extravagant event cost them approximately one million dollars.

The festivities began in the historic Osborn House, where a welcoming reception featuring refreshments took place, bringing together their dear ones to toast and rejoice with them.

Afterward, the pair got married at the Wollumbi Estate, where they made their promises to each other beneath a charming forest shelter.

Harriet strolled along the aisle as a 20-piece orchestra, directed by Dan Fontaine, played Sebastien Tellier’s La Ritournelle. She recollected this event as both bizarre and enchanting in nature.

As I shared with Vogue, my wedding’s aesthetic was deeply rooted in the enchanting charm of nature itself. I aimed to bring forth an atmosphere that exuded a love for flora and the serene beauty of a woodland setting.

During the three-day celebration, Harriet showcased various high-end wedding dresses, one of which was a Vivienne Westwood gown for the welcome cocktails event.

On her wedding day, she wore an Olivia von Halle robe first thing in the morning, then changed into a bespoke dress designed by both Marina Didovich and Harriet later on.

At the reception, Harriet, previously a stylist, donned two additional evening gowns: a 1940’s inspired beaded dress by Steven Khalil and a gown in shades of blue by Paolo Sebastian.

The attendees were social media star Ruby Tuesday Matthews, actress Nadia Fairfax, television host Renee Bargh, disc jockey Jordy Burrows, and fashion model Tash Oakley.

Harriet’s mom, Edeltraud Franziska Grill, was the first spouse of John Grill, who currently leads WorleyParsons, a significant player in the engineering industry with an estimated net worth of around $971 million.

In February 2008, they finalized their divorce, with Edeltraud apparently receiving approximately eight million Worley shares as part of the agreement.
