An upcoming London-based thriller featuring Tanya Moodie from “Motherland” is in the works, boasting an impressive ensemble cast and an intriguing plot, making it a series you won’t want to miss keeping an eye on.

The story, titled “The Girlfriend,” is adapted from Michelle Frances’ novel of the same name, first released in 2017. It revolves around a woman whose world is shaken when her son introduces a supposed new partner, who he believes is not who she claims to be.

In the upcoming Prime Video series, the lead character Laura will be portrayed by Robin Wright from “House of Cards”. Notably, she will also take on directing duties along with Andrea Harkin from Tim’e, and serve as an executive producer too.

What is The Girlfriend about?

In the story titled “The Girlfriend“, we follow the life of Laura, a woman who boasts a successful career, a loving spouse, and cherishes her only son, Daniel. However, this seemingly idyllic existence is shattered when Daniel introduces his new girlfriend, Cherry, into their home.

Following an awkward initial encounter, Laura becomes certain that Cherry is not being truthful about her identity. The summary also mentions that although others cannot discern it, Laura feels compelled to prevent Daniel from being misled.

She’s ready to take any step necessary to safeguard him. As events escalate from troublesome to life-threatening, the query arises: Is Cherry merely a cunning social climber, or is Laura overly suspicious and clingy? The reality, however, depends on one’s point of view…
