Samira Wiley, known for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale, has unequivocally stated that she will not reprise her character in the spinoff series titled The Testaments.
Drawing inspiration from Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel with the same title, the subsequent TV series unfolds approximately five years after the initial storyline, focusing on Aunt Lydia (reprised by Ann Dowd), along with Agnes and Daisy, as they engage in a struggle against Gilead.
Despite Wiley surviving until the conclusion of the sixth and last season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the actress has indicated that she won’t reprise her role as June’s confidante, Moira, in future episodes.

For quite some time, I’ve been involved in this particular show, discussing trauma extensively, comparing the themes of the series to global and national events. However, lately, I find myself no longer drawn to these discussions,” Wiley shared with the Radio Times.
Margaret Atwood is truly remarkable, and it brings me great joy that her work is a significant part of my legacy. However, looking ahead, all I wish to do is explore new narrative territories.

I believe the story is still worthy, yet as a performer, I feel I’ve earned my rights regarding taking work-related aspects home with me, both physically and emotionally.
In a recent conversation with Digital Spy, Wiley revealed that he is relishing the opportunity to be away from Canada since the conclusion of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” He intends to utilize this newfound freedom by spending more time with his loved ones.

Wiley stated that for the first time, he won’t be returning to Toronto for the Handmaid’s play. Instead, he plans to spend some time off after the performance, focusing on being with his daughter and enjoying home life. He mentioned that he misses her deeply, so his current priority might be motherhood.
As a fan who can relate, I imagine myself saying: “I haven’t quite wrapped my head around it yet, but come wintertime when I realize I won’t be returning, that’s when it might hit me. Right now, everything feels the same since I’m still on break, but the thought of not going back during winter is strange and unsettling.
When I began that series, I was in my twenties. The show spans six seasons, however, it has been running for approximately nine and a half years. Consequently, I am both thrilled and apprehensive about what lies ahead.
Season 1-6 of The Handmaid’s Tale are available to stream now on Prime Video.
