A new episode of High Potential won’t air tonight, and there’s a reason why. The show, which returned for its second season in the 2024-2025 TV season, follows Morgan, a brilliant mind who consults with the LAPD’s Major Crimes unit. Now that Kaitlin Olson’s character is more comfortable with her team, she’s dealing with new obstacles, particularly as the investigation into her ex-husband, Roman’s, disappearance progresses.
The first season of High Potential wrapped up with a significant development in Roman’s case. Since then, Morgan, Karadec, and the team have been handling new investigations while continuing to quietly work on the older, unsolved mystery. The introduction of Nick Wagner as a precinct captain has created some complications, and it’s still unclear whether he’s on their side.
Just like last year’s finale, the season 2 episode of High Potential, titled “The One That Got Away,” ended with a case still unfolding, leaving viewers eager to find out what happens next. However, fans will have to wait some time for the next installment.
Why There’s No New High Potential Season 2 Tonight (November 4, 2025)

As a huge fan of High Potential, I’m a little sad to see the first half of season 2 already finished! Because the show started filming earlier than most, ‘The One That Got Away’ was the last episode we’ll get for a while. It’s officially on break now, and we’ll have to wait several weeks for the rest of the season. I’m already counting down the days!
So, it looks like ABC isn’t airing the new season of High Potential tonight after all! Instead, they’re putting on this show called Step Into… The Movies With Derek and Julianne Hough – it’s basically a tribute to famous dance numbers from films, with a bunch of stars performing. Honestly, I’m a little bummed about High Potential, but a dance-focused special sounds fun. Beyond tonight, it’s hard to say what ABC’s plans are, but usually when a show is on break, they just show old episodes.
As a fan, I’m really glad they’re re-airing the older seasons of High Potential! It’s awesome that all the episodes are on Hulu, but having them on regular TV again means even more people can check it out, especially if they haven’t seen it before. It’s a great way to catch up before the new season, or just to rediscover the show!
When Will High Potential Season 2, Episode 8 & What It Will Be About
Great news for fans: Season 2 of High Potential is coming back on January 6, 2026! However, the show will now air earlier in the evening, starting at 9 PM Eastern Time. It will be part of a strong lineup, following Season 4 of Will Trent at 8 PM ET and leading into Season 8 of The Rookie at 10 PM ET.
There’s no official title or plot summary available yet for High Potential season 2, episode 8. But the latest trailer reveals the episode will continue the search for the painting that was stolen in the previous episode. Morgan will be put in a difficult position, needing to decide whether to accuse Rhys Eastman – an art recovery specialist – of the crime.
