Why The Last of Us season 2 makes major Abby change

The Last of Us season 2 mild spoilers follow.

Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the masterminds behind “The Last of Us” TV series, have shed light on the significant alterations made to Abby’s character in the show compared to her game counterpart, explaining the reasons behind these changes.

In the upcoming PlayStation (and future PC) title, there’s another primary playable character named Abby, who is counterpart to Ellie. Hailing from an opposing group of survivors, she initially appears as a villain through Ellie’s perspective. However, as you delve deeper into her storyline, things become less straightforward and more intricate.

Observers have noted that actress Kaitlyn Dever’s physique differs from the muscular build of her video game character counterpart.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann, who was responsible for directing the games, expressed that it would have been challenging to discover a performer as suitable as Kaitlyn for this part.

In this game, I found myself controlling not just one character, but two distinct personalities: Ellie and Abby. To make each experience unique, I had to approach them differently. Ellie felt more nimble, moving with a sense of agility that made me feel like I was guiding a quick, resourceful individual. On the other hand, Abby seemed to be built for power, much like Joel in her ability to handle situations physically, almost brutishly.

In this adaptation, less emphasis is placed on the frequent violent scenes compared to the original story, as it focuses more on the dramatic aspects. However, it doesn’t mean that there’s absolutely no action; rather, the focus and the way it’s presented are different.

Mazin commented: “In my opinion, this situation presents a fascinating chance to explore a character who might be physically weaker than Abby from the game, yet possesses an indomitable spirit.

Next, we delve into the origin and expression of her strong-willed character. This topic will be further examined both now and in the future.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated second season of “The Last of Us” will make its debut on HBO in the United States starting from April. For my fellow fans across the pond in the UK, you can catch it on Sky Atlantic and NOW streaming service!
