Why Taskmaster’s Thunderbolts Concept Art Leaves Us Wanting More Action!

It’s exciting to discover some concept art for Taskmaster, dubbed as “Thunderbolts,” that has popped up online recently. I can’t help but imagine how fantastic it would have been to see more of her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The conclusion of “Thunderbolts” had a significant impact on the franchise, hinting at the team becoming the new version of The Avengers. This development promises to have far-reaching effects for future Marvel films, particularly the upcoming two “Avengers” movies. However, one character who was suggested to have an MCU future based on the “Thunderbolts” trailers hasn’t yet transitioned into an Avenger role.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I found myself captivated by the character of Taskmaster in the 2021 release, “Black Widow”. However, upon her debut, Taskmaster wasn’t warmly received among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans due to insufficient character development. I, along with many others, had high hopes that the upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie would address this issue. Sadly, as the sole member of the Thunderbolts team who didn’t make it through the film, my wish for a more comprehensive portrayal of Taskmaster went unfulfilled. Even a month after the movie’s premiere, I can’t help but yearn for more insight into this intriguing character, especially considering the tantalizing concept art from the production that has surfaced online.

Thunderbolts* Concept Art Shows Just How Cool Taskmaster’s Costume Really Is

Taskmaster’s Visual Design Was Drastically Improved In Thunderbolts*

The concept art for Thunderbolts features Taskmaster’s costume as seen in the movie, showcasing her blue jumpsuit, armor padding, shield, and most recognizably, her skull mask. This artwork was shared on a Reddit forum dedicated to Marvel Studios, and it’s been praised for its accurate representation of Taskmaster, particularly her comic-book famous skull mask. Some fans were disappointed with the design of Taskmaster in Black Widow, but this new portrayal in Thunderbolts seems to address that concern, especially regarding the character’s iconic skull mask.

The MCU Has Wasted One Of Marvel’s Best Villains

The Franchise Did Not Match Taskmaster’s Character With Her Design

Regrettably, viewing this concept art only reinforces my belief that the MCU missed out on fully utilizing Taskmaster. The *Thunderbolts* adaptation refined her appearance to resemble Black Widow, but fell short when it came to developing her character, primarily due to her abrupt demise. In the film, she made a fleeting appearance as one of many targets Valentina Allegra de Fontaine attempted to eliminate before being gunned down by Ghost. Consequently, an intriguing Marvel villain has been underutilized in live-action.

In the Marvel Comics universe, Taskmaster is one of the most fascinating villains, largely due to his unique abilities that allow him to mimic any skill or power of Marvel’s numerous superheroes. Fans have longed to witness more of these talents in action, as demonstrated in the MCU, particularly in shows like Thunderbolts. However, these scenes fell short when it came to character development. Taskmaster has a rich history in the original stories and, although the transition from Anthony Masters to Antonia Dreykov took place in the MCU, this potential was not fully utilized. Regrettably, in live-action adaptations, Taskmaster has unfortunately failed to live up to expectations.

Taskmaster May Be Dead, But Could The MCU Give Her A Legacy?

The Hero Might Be Able To Live On

In spite of Taskmaster’s demise in the movie “Thunderbolts,” there are potential methods for the MCU to honor his legacy. One method that has been hinted at is through a character from another dimension within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as seen in the finale of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” season 1. This series introduced a character named Finesse, who, in the comics, is Taskmaster’s daughter and shares his same abilities. This could pave the way for more appearances of the Taskmaster character within one aspect of the franchise.

In a real-world setting, Finesse might also join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), though this possibility is rather slim. Furthermore, the MCU could present Anthony Masters as the inspiration behind Antonia Dreykov’s Taskmaster, thereby incorporating more of the character’s comic book traits and history since the MCU significantly altered Antonia’s backstory. Whether this will materialize in the future of the franchise is yet to be determined, but it’s one approach to expand Taskmaster’s legacy beyond Thunderbolts.

*Note: I have corrected the bolded text for clarity as *Thunderbolts* refers to a team of villains and anti-heroes in the Marvel Comics Universe, not a franchise.
