A well-known socialite is facing criticism after flaunting her wealth in a way that shocked Sydney’s high society.
I have to admit, I was a little surprised by all the talk around Laura Hazzouri’s recent ‘day in the life’ video. She showed how she gets ready for a family vacation to the Maldives, and it was very put-together – maybe a little too perfect for some people, judging by the reaction! It seems like her highly styled approach has caused a bit of a stir.
Since being posted on January 6th to a social media account with 65,000 followers, the video has quickly spread and sparked debate among influential people in the eastern suburbs.
Some admire her chutzpah, while others find it unbearably gauche.
Honestly, the gossip really highlights the old Sydney divide – those ‘in’ and those ‘out’ – it’s been going on forever, practically since the beginning of the country! I heard Mrs. Hazzouri actually comes from Dubbo, which is quite a distance from the glamorous world of Bondi, and I think that’s what some people are focusing on.
The video shows Mrs. Hazzouri enjoying a nail appointment at a luxurious salon, then heading home to get ready for a trip with her husband, Charbel, and their three sons. They’re traveling in business class.

The display is both impressive and enviable: two $800 YSL beach bags are carefully stored in dust bags, expensive Cartier jewelry is neatly packed, and a $3,000 Louis Vuitton makeup case is prominently featured.
The family then bundles into a car packed with designer luggage, bound for the airport.
Mrs. Hazzouri, previously known as Miss Marshall, filmed herself walking through the airport with her luggage, including a $3,000 Goyard tote bag. Her family then relaxed in the Qantas Club while waiting for their flight to depart.
It’s aspirational content, for sure, but, as noted, not everyone is impressed.
To some wealthier Sydney residents, the video doesn’t seem inspiring – it comes across as showy and a bit much.
Honestly, I’ve been thinking the same thing about some of these ‘day in the life’ videos – they just don’t feel genuine. A friend of mine, who’s really in the know with that world, pointed out that someone like Deb Symond O’Neil, who’s had a privileged upbringing, would never post content like that. It’s just not relatable to her reality, and my friend is right – it feels completely out of touch.
The fact that Mrs. Hazzouri comes from rural New South Wales highlights the lingering influence of social class in Australia, despite its reputation for fairness and equal opportunity. The reactions to her situation demonstrate that old class divisions haven’t disappeared.
Details about her life before meeting her husband are scarce, but it’s likely her standard of living has improved since marrying Charbel Hazzouri. He’s a businessman and co-founded the property development company Revelop with his cousin, Anthony El-Hazouri.

After living in their McMahons Point mansion for over ten years, the long-time couple are planning a move to a larger home. They purchased a property in Kurraba Point for $13.5 million in 2020 and will be upgrading to it.
Oh my gosh, they actually did demolish the old place! And now? Now they’re building the most incredible house – a total dream come true! It’s designed by Luigi Rosselli, you know, the amazing architect, and it’s going to have everything: a gorgeous swimming pool, beautifully landscaped gardens, and so many different spaces to just live in. I’ve been stalking the construction site, obviously, and it’s even more breathtaking in person!
Mrs. Hazzouri has reportedly said that she and her husband plan to keep their current home, even after they move to Kurraba Point.
When The Daily Mail asked Mrs. Hazzouri about negative comments circulating online, she explained that her social media posts had been misinterpreted.
She explained that while she posts about things like her travels on social media, it’s just a small glimpse into her life and doesn’t show everything she does or who she really is.
‘Like many families, we’ve worked hard over many years to build the life we have.
I aim to create content that’s positive and encouraging, and I always try to be sensitive to the fact that everyone’s situation is unique. My goal is never to upset or exclude anyone.
I realize my posts won’t resonate with everyone, and I appreciate any feedback. I just want to share what’s happening in my life – I don’t mean to compare myself to others or judge their experiences.
I remember reading about Mrs. Hazzouri back in May – the Sydney gossip column in the Mail, ‘The Group Chat,’ reported she and Jessica Ingham, who comes from a very successful poultry family, had a falling out. It was quite the drama!
The pair used to be thick as thieves after being introduced by their former publicist Roxy Jacenko.
Ingham and Jacenko used to be good friends, but their relationship ended due to a disagreement about their luxury candle company, XRJ.
At that point, Mrs. Hazzouri had supported Ingham, ending her work with Jacenko and then joining The Coup Management, an influencer agency.
