Okay, so Solo: A Star Wars Story did pretty well in theaters – almost $400 million! And most critics liked it. But honestly, from what I’ve heard, Kathleen Kennedy, the big boss at Lucasfilm, kinda sees it as a misstep. It’s not a favorite of hers, apparently.
The producer, who also served as president of Lucasfilm, announced their departure on Friday after 14 years. They’ve had a remarkable career, overseeing the Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and Star Wars franchises.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Kathleen Kennedy discussed highlights from her career and confessed she had some reservations about Solo, the 2018 film that explored the backstory of Han Solo.

I asked Larry Kasdan, a screenwriter, to help, and we both really liked the idea we were working on. But as we developed it, we realized it just wasn’t possible to replace Han Solo – not at this time.
Alden Ehrenreich was a fantastic actor, and he did a great job. However, the project put him in a really difficult spot, and once things were underway, we had to see it through.

Kennedy admitted to some reservations about how things played out, but emphasized she had no regrets about the actual process of making the film. She felt they might have jumped the gun conceptually, especially considering her first production was the 1982 hit, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Okay, so Ron Howard directed Solo, and it was pretty cool seeing Ehrenreich take on the role of young Han Solo – definitely big shoes to fill after Harrison Ford! The movie also had Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke in it, which made the whole thing even better.
Now that Kathleen Kennedy has left Lucasfilm, the company still has several Star Wars projects in the works, with many at different stages of production.

Among the projects currently on hold is New Jedi Order, which would bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey. The story takes place fifteen years after The Rise of Skywalker and centers on Rey training the next group of Jedi.
Ridley recently shared that making a movie is a huge undertaking. He acknowledged there are always many challenges, but expressed confidence that the upcoming film will be special thanks to the talented people involved, making the wait worthwhile.
