Why Sherwood fans won’t want to miss BBC’s “unconventional” and “crushing” new crime drama Mint

A new BBC crime drama called *Mint* is coming soon, and it’s set to be different from typical shows in the genre. It’s the TV debut for British filmmaker Charlotte Regan and focuses on the personal lives of a crime family. The series explores themes of intense love, devastating loss, and what it’s like to experience romance when your family is feared by others.

Regan wrote, directed, and created the eight-episode drama, filmed in Glasgow. Her work is known for its original and recognizable style.

Fans of *Sherwood* will be especially interested in *Mint*, as it’s made by the same production company – House Productions – that created *Sherwood*, along with the film *Conclave* and the ITV drama *Six Four*.

The new BBC series *Mint* stars Emma Laird (known for *The Brutalist*) and Ben Coyle-Larner, who also performs as the musician Loyle Carner, as the main characters, Shannon and Arran. The BBC recently shared a first look at the pair in their roles, which you can view below.

The show’s cast includes Lewis Gribben, known for his role in *Shetland*, Laura Fraser (*Breaking Bad*, *The Loch*), Lindsay Duncan (*Sherlock*), and Sam Riley (*Control*).

When the show was first announced, BBC Drama director Lindsay Salt described “Mint” as a unique crime drama, hailing from the creative talents of Charlotte Regan and the production companies Fearless Minds and House Productions.

I’m really excited about Charlotte’s new TV show with the BBC! It’s awesome to see her focusing on the women connected to the criminal world – it’s a side of that life we don’t often get to see, and it feels really fresh. I’m so proud of her for taking this on.

Regan, the creator of *Mint*, has shared how deeply impressed they are with the cast, admitting they were overwhelmed with emotion by their talent.

“I had a little cry the other day thinking about how incredible this cast are,” she said.

Honestly, I can’t picture a better cast to bring these characters to life. I truly believe each and every one of them is going to absolutely nail their role, and I’m so thankful to be working with them all!

Mint is coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One, but a release date has not yet been announced.
