Russell T Davies has explained the urgency behind getting his new Channel 4 series, Tip Toe, on television. The show, expected to launch this year, centers around two neighbors in Manchester whose relationship turns hostile as the world around them becomes more stressful.
Alan Cumming plays Leo, the owner of a bar in Manchester’s Gay Village. David Morrissey stars as Clive, Leo’s neighbour, who becomes increasingly troubled and drawn into extremist right-wing views about the LGBTQ+ community.
This series will explore the biggest challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community right now, and how prejudice is starting to reappear in society.

Davies recently shared with Metro that the film is about halfway through post-production editing, and the team is very pleased with how it’s coming along.
We’ve doubled our editing team to get this finished quickly, allowing Channel 4 to broadcast it as soon as possible – it’s a really relevant show for what’s happening in the world right now, he explained.

He described his show, Tip Toe, as the story of a gay man living in Britain and his straight neighbor. The show tackles current online conversations and issues facing the LGBTQ+ community.
The show features transgender actors, which naturally brings those experiences into the story. But it’s really about reflecting the complexities of modern life – all sorts of issues are woven in. And it’s also meant to be funny, enjoyable, and genuinely entertaining, the writer explained.
Davies highlighted how crucial it is to see diverse voices right now, especially as rights are being taken away from vulnerable groups, particularly transgender people, which she described as frightening.

Seeing Trump take down the Pride flag at the Stonewall Inn was incredibly disheartening,” he said. “It felt like the worst and most absurd thing possible, and what happens in the US often impacts us here. Still, it’s important to remain hopeful.
He believes television has the potential to improve, pointing to the recent Canadian show Heated Rivalry as a positive example that makes him optimistic.
Joining the cast of Tip Toe are Jackson Connor (known for Masters of the Air), Pooky Quesnel (Moonflower Murders), Joseph Evans (The Map That Leads To You), Charlie Condou (Doctor Who), Iz Hesketh (Hollyoaks), and Denise Welch (Waterloo Road).
Tip Toe will air on Channel 4 this year.
