Why revered drama Industry is coming to an end now after “a really good run”

The HBO and BBC drama Industry has been renewed for a fifth season, but this will be its last. The show, which portrays the lives of young graduates working in finance in the UK, will conclude after season five.

Fans were understandably upset by the news, particularly since the show’s fourth season had been so popular with both viewers and critics earlier this year.

In a recent interview with Radio Times, HBO’s Casey Bloys shared the reasons why they’ve decided to conclude the show at this point.

When asked about the timing, Bloys said, ‘After five seasons, it feels like a natural stopping point. Five seasons is a good length for a show to run.’

The show has been reimagined repeatedly, and the direction the characters were heading in the fifth season felt like a natural ending point, so I decided to stop there.

Bloys hinted at future opportunities for the show’s creators, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, who previously worked as investment bankers.

I’m also curious to hear what Konrad and Mickey have planned, and I believe they are eager to share it too. I’m really excited to see what they come up with next.

Bloys explained that the writers were early in their careers, so they decided to try a unique approach: casting recent drama school graduates and giving both the actors and writers a chance to shine. He was thrilled with the result.

Popular actors Myha’la, Marisa Abela, and Ken Leung star in the show, and Kit Harington, known for Game of Thrones, will be joining the cast in season 3.

The show first aired in 2020 and has since received several awards, including a BAFTA TV Award for Best Leading Actress, which went to Abela. It also won the Drama Series prize at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards last year.

Industry airs on BBC and BBC iPlayer in the UK and on HBO in the US.
