After ten years of development, Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad, is releasing his new sci-fi series, Pluribus, on November 7th, and we can’t wait! Starring Rhea Seehorn, the show centers around Carol, a writer who is unaffected by a virus that causes everyone else to become excessively happy and content. The show’s tagline is, “The most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness.”
So, what’s this show actually about, and why is it worth watching? Even the trailers are keeping the plot under wraps, and the entire marketing strategy has been deliberately secretive, as the show’s creator intended.
Gilligan told Inverse he prefers viewers go into the show with as few spoilers as possible. He understands some people like to know what happens beforehand, but he personally enjoys being surprised and wants to create that same experience for the audience.
What to Read Next
This nine-episode series features Carol Sturka, a complex and unhappy romance novelist who serves as the main character. She’s a fresh take on the modern antihero.
Since the show is created by Vince Gilligan, the mind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, you can expect a tense and captivating story, even though it now includes science fiction elements.
Pluribus’ cast: who’s in it?
Rhea Seehorn plays Sturka. Many viewers will know her as Kim Wexler from the acclaimed series Better Call Saul.

While working on The X-Files, Gilligan first envisioned the main character as male. He began developing the concept for the show during his breaks while filming Better Call Saul.
He explained that the idea for the story began almost ten years ago with a simple concept: a male character who everyone suddenly starts treating incredibly well. This character doesn’t do anything to earn their love and support—people just inexplicably begin to adore him and are willing to do anything for him.
Many of us constantly worry about whether people will like us. But what’s been liberating in the writing process – first with the character Walter White, portrayed by Bryan Cranston, and now with Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka – is that we don’t concern ourselves with that. We simply let the story guide us.
Casting Rhea Seehorn played a major role in the decision to make the lead character female. Vince Gilligan, recalling his enjoyment of her work on Better Call Saul, decided he wanted to create a show specifically for her. He felt she deserved to be the star and shaped the main character with her in mind.

Fans of Breaking Bad will notice something familiar: the new show is also set in Albuquerque, New Mexico – the same city where Walter White’s story unfolded.
I’m so excited about Pluribus! It’s got some amazing actors I already love – Karolina Wydra, who was fantastic in Sneaky Pete, and Carlos-Manuel Vesga, who I remember from The Hijacking of Flight 601. Plus, Miriam Shor (American Fiction) and Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death) are making guest appearances, which is awesome!
Pluribus premieres Nov 7 on Apple TV.
The latest issue of Living Legends is now available! You can purchase Ariana & Witches at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
