Why Officials in Spain Are Investigating Katy Perry
As a seasoned film enthusiast who has seen the evolution of pop culture through the lens of countless music videos, I find myself both amused and concerned by Katy Perry‘s latest predicament. Having witnessed the meteoric rise and occasional fall of many a star, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu as I follow the saga of Katy Perry and her new album “143.”
Investigators in Spain are looking into pop sensation Katy Perry following the filming of her music video for the track “LIFETimes” on the Spanish islands of Ibiza and Formentera. In this new song’s music video, Perry is seen dancing amidst the scenic backdrop of Balearic Islands beaches and enjoying herself at nightclubs.
It’s been reported that certain scenes in the music video were filmed without permission in locations where neither Katy Perry nor her production team had authorization, as stated by local government officials in a press release on Tuesday. We’ve reached out to Katy Perry and her production company, WeOwnTheCity, for additional information.
A good chunk of Perry’s video was filmed on the isolated island of S’Espalmador, which is known for its sand dunes that the Spanish authorities consider to be of significant environmental importance, according to the BBC.
Despite this, Spanish local officials have stressed that Perry is not being investigated for an “environmental crime,” as filming and photography in the area are allowed with the necessary permissions. We’ve contacted the local authorities of the island for more information.
The latest development in Perry’s seventh new studio album launch, titled 143, has taken an unfavorable turn. Upon its release last month, the music video for her debut single “Woman’s World” garnered mixed reviews from critics. While the lyrics seemed to promote feminism at first glance, they were paired with a video that some felt objectified women and appealed more to male viewers.
In Lauren Tousignant’s review of the Jezebel music video, she emphasized that it’s enjoyable, but clarified that it’s not about challenging the typical male perspective, Katy! She really wanted to make sure this point was clear!!!
In a behind-the-scenes video posted on Instagram, Perry outlined her concept for the music video. From the filming location, she shared that they aim to create a playful, somewhat satirical atmosphere. The video will have a lot of physical comedy and will be quite obvious in its humor.
