Why Mary Wiseman should be a part of Star Trek: Academy

As a dedicated Star Trek fan and avid gamer of Discovery, I can’t help but feel excited about Mary Wiseman‘s potential involvement in the upcoming series, Starfleet Academy. Lt. Sylvia Tilly, played by Wiseman, was a breath of fresh air to Discovery with her bubbly personality and intelligence. Her ability to find good in everyone aboard the ship made her an essential character.

Mary Wiseman’s character, Lt. Sylvia Tilly, brought a delightful and intelligent presence to Star Trek: Discovery. She worked alongside Commander Stamets (Anthony Rapp) as a cheerful officer, and was the first to befriend Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) when she joined Discovery after serving time in prison for mutiny. It was characteristic of Tilly to be friendly with all her shipmates, seeking the best in everyone around her.

In the fourth episode of Discovery’s fourth season, Tilly departed to join Starfleet Academy as an instructor. She temporarily came back to Discovery but ultimately stayed at the Academy, becoming its longest-serving teacher. This background makes Wiseman essential for the upcoming series, Starfleet Academy, which is set in the 32nd century.

If the show intends to exclude Wiseman’s character permanently, which seems unlikely, then it’s necessary for him to appear in the series. It’s hard to imagine Tilly being absent, except if the cadets aren’t attending her classes. Considering there are various instructors, would there be multiple teachers for the same subject?

Introducing Wiseman to Starfleet Academy serves a twofold purpose. Firstly, it allows us to continue Wiseman’s unfinished story from Discovery. secondly, and equally exciting, it provides an opportunity for encounters with other recognized Starfleet members in the 32nd century. As Tilly hinted to Captain Burnham, we may cross paths again at Federation Headquarters.

Starfleet Academy will introduce new characters and a fresh setting for fans, making it an intriguing watch. Including a recognized character like Tilly in the mix would significantly boost viewership, as her presence guarantees emotions, laughter, and optimism.
