Why John Stamos didn’t shave his own head for Dave Coulier after he ‘missed the mark’ with cancer bald cap
As someone who has lost friends to cancer and witnessed the profound impact it can have on everyone involved, I find myself deeply moved by the situation unfolding between John Stamos and Dave Coulier. While some may criticize Stamos’ choice to wear a bald cap instead of shaving his head in solidarity with his friend, I believe that humor and friendship are powerful tools in the face of adversity.
John Stamos admits that the bald cap he wore in a photo with his co-star Dave Coulier fell short, as people criticized him for not shaving his head instead, labeling him ‘insensitive’ or ‘superficial’.
61-year-old comedian caused an angry response when he was seen wearing a hat similar to one worn by his co-star, 65-year-old actor, in a photo. He used digital editing tools to enhance the image, claiming it was a gesture of affection and support for the actor who recently received a cancer diagnosis.
On their individual Instagram accounts, the cast members of Full House posted an image with the aim of providing a ‘cheerful, casual’ perspective about coping with the illness.
‘It’s common knowledge among Dave and his wife Melissa that John openly expresses his feelings, and they understand he acted with kindness at heart,’ a source informed DailyMail.com.
He’s concerned about a friend who isn’t well, hoping he recovers quickly so he can laugh again. It never crossed his mind that anyone might find his post upsetting.
They aimed to present their post as lighthearted and amusing, shedding a positive perspective on a subject that’s extremely challenging to handle.
‘Should someone struggling with cancer be upset by unkind remarks, it’s important to understand they’re hurt, but they won’t lower their spirits due to internet bullies. Instead, they need positive energy at this time.’
Critics slammed the ‘casual move’ on social media, with some puzzled as to why Stamos opted for a wig instead of shaving his own hair. Some even alleged that he shared the photo to boost ‘likes’ on Instagram.
However, another source close to the situation notes that had it not been for his part in the Apple TV series “Palm Royale,” Stamos would have cut off his hair without hesitation.
They mentioned that ‘John is at present engaged with the project called Palm Royale, which necessitates him keeping his hair.’ Alternatively, they added that ‘If not for this Palm Royale assignment, John would gladly shave off his hair immediately.’
They went on to say: ‘John admitted his mistake here. Both he and his wife Caitlin have experienced the loss of loved ones due to cancer.’
‘He can see how people could be upset about this.’
On Monday, Stamos shared three photos where he could be seen sporting a bald cap while shaving Coulier’s head, following his diagnosis of stage 3 lymphoma.
Another image showed Stamos and Coulier’s wife Melissa kissing the actor’s head.
He put on a wig for a change and used his Photoshop abilities to express support and camaraderie towards his friend @dcoulier, as stated in an Instagram post.
‘You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you (p.s. – @melissacoulier is the most wonderfulest – your true life line!)’
The post proved divisive, with Stamos finding himself on the receiving end of a backlash, with one user accusing him of simply ‘posing for a photo op.’
One individual commented, ‘Such a superficial act! You didn’t even shave your head for your friend.’ They added, ‘And you even posted it on Instagram to gather those likes as well.’
Another commented: ‘Come on John shave it!!! Sending much love and strength.’
One individual expressed, ‘As a survivor of breast cancer, I find this inappropriate and disrespectful, not supportive. This is more like a joke. I must say, you should feel embarrassed.’
Another added: ‘God bless Dave but is this really appropriate? A bald cap is showing solidarity? You can just take your cap off and be ‘normal’ again.
‘By following this path, they essentially get a bald head. It seems to me that you might be using Dave’s health issues to win people over.’
Others defended the ‘hilarious’ gesture.
A user penned, ‘Having battled cancer three times, I’ve never desired anyone to shave their head on my behalf.’ In my opinion, it’s wonderful and amusing, and I’m confident that Dave didn’t genuinely want him to do so.
Another said: ‘Standing in solidarity isn’t just shaving your head. Don’t be cruel, they are lifelong friends.’
45-year-old Kelly Rizzo, the wife of the late Bob Saget (who famously portrayed Danny Tanner on Full House), shared with DailyMail.com that John Stamos refused to bald as a tribute to Dave Coulier on the set.
She mentioned during the 11th Annual Reality TV Awards on Monday evening that she noticed both him and John had posted something about shaving their heads, but she’s certain Stamos won’t do the same.
‘I don’t care how much he wants to support his buddy. He’s never shaving his head!’
On the Today show, it was announced by Coulier, known for his role as Joey Gladstone in Full House, that he had received a certain diagnosis. Later, he disclosed that he shared this news with his previous co-stars through a collective text message.
Currently, Coulier is receiving chemotherapy treatment. At present, his older sibling, Karen, is likewise battling cancer.

He has since addressed the backlash over Stamos’ post in a statement shared to Instagram.
Apologies for the many critical remarks, as I’ve only recently embarked on my cancer journey, as expressed in a post shared on Instagram yesterday.
‘In our friendship, we’re navigating through difficult times. As a comedian, I rely on humor to keep going. John has a knack for making me smile, and it was heartwarming when he showed up wearing a bald cap, knowing how to lift my spirits in such a genuine and brotherly way.’
Stamos’ contentious post emerged several hours following his disclosure that he was grieving over the passing of his childhood companion, Mike.
Earlier today, he posted tenderly about the past, reminiscing over a string of old pictures that took him back to when he learned about his close friend’s passing.
While en route to Detroit to see my pal Dave, I received a text from my best friend’s sibling: “Give me a call.” A sense of unease washed over me. “Is Mike alright?” I inquired. The reply seemed to take an eternity, as those ominous three dots appeared on my screen. Eventually, only two letters appeared: “No.
He went on to share: ‘Mike Owen, my best friend since I was 11, was gone. A sudden heart attack. Just like that. The world I’d built around our friendship shifted, surreal and devastating.’
