Why Jason Orange isn’t in Netflix’s Take That documentary: Where is he now?

A new documentary about Take That is now available on Netflix, but not all of the original band members participated in new interviews. While Jason Orange and Robbie Williams appear in the three-part series through older footage and interviews, they didn’t contribute any new content.

Take That originally had five members, but Robbie Williams and Jason Orange both left the group at different times. The current lineup – Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald – are now sharing their stories in a new Netflix series, looking back on their careers over the years.

Why did Jason Orange not take part in Netflix’s Take That documentary?

Honestly, the whole thing was pretty straightforward from the start. When Netflix announced the documentary, they always said it would be the current band members giving the new interviews – that was never a secret!

This series celebrates the incredible journey of one of the UK’s most beloved bands. It includes rare archival footage, never-before-seen personal material, and new interviews with Gary, Howard, and Mark, offering a deeply personal look at their triumphs, struggles, and lasting impact.

Robbie Williams has been the subject of multiple films recently. A four-part Netflix documentary about his life came out in 2023, followed by the highly acclaimed musical biopic, Better Man, in 2024.

Why did Jason Orange leave Take That?

Jason Orange was one of the original five members of the band that would become one of the UK’s biggest pop sensations.

Robbie Williams was the first member to leave Take That, departing in 1995. The following year, in 1996, the remaining four members also decided to go their separate ways, officially ending the band.

I was so excited when Take That got back together in 2005, even if it was just the four of them at first! It was amazing when an old, unreleased song suddenly hit number 2, and then the documentary, Take That: For the Record, reminded everyone just how great they were. That’s when they announced they were touring again – I couldn’t believe it!

The band continued performing until 2010, when the exciting news broke that Robbie Williams was rejoining. With the original five members reunited, Take That released a new album called Progress and followed it up with a very successful tour throughout the UK and Europe.

After Williams left, Jason Orange also announced his departure from Take That in 2014.

The band announced the news on their website, stating (according to Hello! magazine) that the member had informed Mark, Gary, and Howard that they wouldn’t be participating in recording or promoting a new album.

He explained that there wasn’t any conflict or disagreement, he simply decided he didn’t want to continue.

I’m a big supporter of Mark, Gary, and Howard’s creative passions – their writing and music – and I want them to know I’m always cheering them on to keep going.

Orange shared that his time with Take That was a highlight of his life, and he expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him along the way, especially his bandmates, whom he considers like family.

Take That released a statement saying Jason’s departure was a significant loss, not just for the band’s work, but also on a personal level, as reported by NME.

Jason’s passion and unwavering faith in our band were essential to our success, and we’ll always appreciate his energy, hard work, and the inspiration he provided over the years.

Robbie Williams shared a message of support for a former bandmate on social media, writing, “Mr Orange. Until we meet again. Lots of love, brother.”

After Robbie Williams left, Take That continued with the remaining three members, and Jason Orange has mostly stayed away from public life.

Take That is streaming now on Netflix.
