Why Jack Lowden’s “masterclass” BBC crime drama won’t get another season despite being a hit
The main actors from the BBC crime series, “The Gold,” have shared their reasons as to why the show won’t return for another season, even though it was popular among viewers.
As a fictional character stepping into the shoes of one of those six daring robbers back in ’83, I find myself embroiled in an exhilarating tale. We pulled off a heist for the history books, targeting a warehouse near the bustling Heathrow Airport, where we made away with a staggering fortune – gold, cash, and diamonds worth a whopping £26 million! The year was 1983, and our audacious act left ripples that still echo in the annals of crime history.
Featuring actors like Jack Lowden from “Slow Horses” and Hugh Bonneville known for his role in “Paddington”, the first season concluded with the police apprehending and sentencing the criminal group. However, it was disclosed later that half of the gold they seized remains unaccounted for.

To RadioTimes.com, I shared my thoughts on how Neil Forsyth, the mastermind behind our favorite series, had envisioned the story as a two-act tale from the get-go, me being one of its dedicated gamers.
Spencer mentioned that many people might not be aware that there is still an untold storyline in the show, as only half of the gold had been found earlier. He believes this new part of the story will appeal to viewers.
Elliott commented: “Neil has a knack for knowing if a piece will be a single entity, a two-part series, or a trilogy, and since I’ve collaborated with him on multiple occasions, this ability is something I’ve noticed consistently.
He’s always had the entire storyline for the series, starting from the very first episode of the first season in his mind. Thankfully, since the first season was successful, there was a chance to keep exploring and developing this concept further.
The Gold has been highly praised by critics, earning a remarkable 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 26 reviews.
The Sydney Morning Herald referred to the show as an “exemplary demonstration,” finding it equally captivating and moving.
The Gold series starts streaming on BBC iPlayer this Sunday, June 8th at 6am, with all episodes ready for viewing. The first episode will also air on BBC One that same day at 9pm. If you can’t wait until then, you can already stream all season 1 episodes on BBC iPlayer.
