Why is Burgess still gone in Chicago PD Season 12? (Is Marina Squerciati leaving?)

As a dedicated fan of Chicago PD who’s seen every episode since season one, I can’t help but feel a tad concerned about Kim Burgess’s absence in Season 12. It’s been a while since we last saw her, and with Ruzek going through so much turmoil, it seems like she should be there to lend a helping hand or at least offer some comforting words. But alas, she’s MIA!

In Chicago PD’s Season 12, Kim Burgess has been noticeably absent. This is surprising given the turmoil her partner Ruzek has experienced recently. So, one might wonder where the character has disappeared to.

Could it be possible that Marina Squerciati‘s character hasn’t appeared yet, even though she’s been mentioned? This might suggest she’s not exiting the show, but rather, it could hint at some exciting developments in her character’s narrative down the line.

Where Burgess is in Chicago PD Season 12

It’s great to know that Burgess won’t be departing from Intelligence. During the premiere of Chicago PD Season 12, it was revealed that she is attending a law enforcement conference instead. There were speculations about her possible early exit due to the drug case unfolding in the episode, but Martel urged her to carry on.

There was a clear hint at what this policing conference could do. Martel shared that it might “give her a leg up” in Intelligence.

Upon her return, we eagerly anticipate witnessing her express sorrow for the passing of Martel, since it is known that she and Ruzek were friends with him.

Is Burgess getting a promotion in Chicago PD Season 12?

We’ve been anticipating for quite some time that an officer would be promoted to a detective position. According to Showrunner Gwen Sigan, a promotion is expected in the upcoming season, leaving us guessing as to who will receive it.

In this narrative, I’m hoping to see the advancement of both Burgess and Atwater. The storytelling suggests that Burgess might be the one getting promoted, though.

Why isn’t Marina Squerciati in the first two episodes of Chicago PD Season 12?

Why has Squerciati been absent from the initial two episodes of this season? It seems plausible that the series is exploring methods to reduce its production expenses, possibly resulting in his absence.

In Season 11, certain characters weren’t present in some episodes. They might have been on leave (furlough), or busy handling other matters. Sometimes, their absence wasn’t explained, leaving us to assume they were away for a particular episode. We had been informed that this would occur to keep production costs low.

It seems like a recurring pattern. The disappearance of Burgess might serve as a plot device in upcoming episodes, potentially leading to her promotion. In the forthcoming installment, we could witness her return, but with another character seemingly absent. Be prepared for such developments involving different characters throughout Season 12.
