Why Ironheart Didn’t Get Her Pink Suit of Armor in MCU
Zoie Nagelhout, producer of the Ironheart series, has shared the reason behind Dominique Thorne’s character not wearing her trademark pink suit in the Marvel series. The mini-series, Ironheart, premiered on Disney+ on June 24, 2025.
In addition to Thorne playing Riri Williams, the series boasts Anthony Ramos, Lyric Ross, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, and others. Sacha Baron Cohen appeared in a special role as the eagerly awaited Marvel character Mephisto.
Zoie Nagelhout on why Ironheart’s pink suit from Marvel wasn’t in MCU
In a chat with The Direct, Ironheart’s producer, Zoie Nagelhout, explained the decision to leave out Riri Williams’ iconic pink suit in the show.
When queried about the possibility of including Williams’ pink suit in the miniseries, Nagelhout responded honestly, “No.” She elaborated, explaining that they decided against it because a gray, Transformers-inspired suit designed by Mike Deodato from earlier comics had captured their attention. This suit was built by Williams in her MIT dorm room, and upon seeing it, they felt it was perfect for the character.
Nagelhout further explained that the “pink suit” in the future could be a concept viewers might grasp. She added, “Perhaps you’ll understand it like Tony did with nanotechnology.” For Williams’ standalone series, they intended for the character to initially possess a suit whose components fans “could trace back to their origins.” The producer elaborated, “We wanted to start by showing that she found the suit in a junkyard or from a car part.
To craft the outfit for her battle against Anthony Ramos’ character, Hood, Williams designed a completely new suit by utilizing pieces from her stepfather’s vehicle. This suit was built in her stepfather’s garage and had a striking black and red color scheme. Moreover, this outfit also contained magical properties.
In a split release, the first half of Ironheart became available from June, while the remaining episodes premiered on July 1, 2025.
