Why Ian Alexander Is the Perfect Choice to Play Lev in The Last of Us Season 3!
🚨 Attention! The following text contains significant spoilers from both seasons of ‘The Last of Us‘. If you haven’t finished watching the series on HBO or with a Max subscription, beware and proceed at your own risk.
Following seven demanding episodes, both physically and emotionally, the Season 2 finale of “The Last of Us” left viewers on tenterhooks due to that significant cliffhanger featuring Bella Ramsey’s Ellie and Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby. Now that the show has wrapped up for 2025 television programming, we start our wait for the release date of “The Last of Us” Season 3. As for where the story might be heading, I have a rough idea at least in terms of plot development.
If the upcoming video game adaptation follows suit with its PlayStation 2020 basis, expect it to delve into the untold segment of the game’s dual narrative. This means we’ll witness an alternate perspective of Abby and encounter one of the franchise’s cherished figures, Lev. I eagerly anticipate the series’ introduction of this intricately crafted character, a trans Seraphite who assists Abby on her quest, as they are a favorite of mine. When it resumes, my preference for portraying them is quite clear…
Ian Alexander, Who Played Lev In The Last Of Us Part II, Is A No-Brainer Choice For Season 3
As a passionate cinephile, I’d like to highlight my admiration for Ian Alexander, a versatile actor who has graced shows such as The OA, Star Trek: Discovery, and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. In the game The Last of Us Part II, they took on the role of Lev, providing both voice and likeness. Their performance, one of the most poignant yet indelible in the game, was brimming with heart and depth, beautifully portraying a young Seraphite navigating the complexities of two different worlds.
It seems to me that in portraying the character Lev, a “leave well enough alone” approach might be best. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to have Alexander return for the live-action adaptation of the second part of The Last of Us Part II. In fact, observing his acting progress since performing motion-capture work over half a decade ago would be quite fascinating.

Alexander Has Previously Voiced Their Desire To Play Lev Again
Lev, who wasn’t present in “The Last of Us” Season 2, might make an appearance at the start of Season 3 when it eventually airs. It’s likely that his character will be introduced then, and Ian Alexander, the actor who originally portrayed him, has expressed interest in returning to the role he made famous.
In an interview with Business Insider during the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur premiere in February 2023, Alexander expressed hope that they would have the opportunity to reprise their character as the 13-year-old transgender teen who faced rejection among the Seraphites. They are eagerly waiting for this possibility to become a reality.

The Show Has A Brief History Of Having Actors Reprise Their Roles From The Games
Despite the majority of characters from the initial two seasons of The Last of Us being portrayed by different actors compared to the games, there are instances where actors from the original source have returned in similar roles for the HBO series. In Season 1, Merle Dandridge took on the part of Marlene, the Fireflies leader who met her end in the climactic 2023 finale. Subsequently, Jeffrey Wright reprised his role as Isaac, a composed yet ruthless leader of the W.L.F., although the outcome of his character was left undisclosed in the second season.
It’s worth noting that Misty Lee and Phillip Kovats, who were responsible for the motion-capture work on the deadly clickers in the The Last of Us video games, reprised their roles as infected characters when the series aired on television screens in 2023.

By pre-paying for an annual subscription, you can save up to 16% on Max plans, which equates to a potential savings of $41! If you’re looking for even more savings, consider bundling Max with Disney Plus and Hulu, starting at just $16.99 a month. Take advantage of this offer now! View Deal
There’s been quite a bit of speculation regarding the future of “The Last of Us,” particularly concerning a potential fourth series. Yet, I’m eagerly anticipating the narrative development in the upcoming sequel, with a special focus on the dynamic between Abby and Lev’s partnership.
