HBO Max Is The Home Of 2025’s Best Horror Release For Halloween
For years, Netflix became known for releasing high-quality horror series around Halloween, largely thanks to the October debuts of popular shows from Mike Flanagan, including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher. This Halloween, while Netflix still offers some new horror options, HBO Max is releasing what’s expected to be the year’s biggest horror event, It: Welcome to Derry.
Currently in development for over three years, Welcome to Derry will serve as a prequel to Stephen King’s It and the It films directed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti. The new story is set decades before the original, and will reveal more about how Pennywise the Clown came to be. Fans will be thrilled to hear that Bill Skarsgård is returning to play Pennywise in Welcome to Derry.
Fans of the It series have been waiting a while, but they’ll finally be able to return to the frightening world of Derry, Maine when the prequel series begins streaming on HBO and HBO Max on October 26th. New episodes will be released each week, letting viewers continue the spooky fun long after Halloween, with the first season concluding on December 14th.

HBO Max is the place to be for horror fans this October, offering both a highly anticipated new series and a great selection of movies. One standout film, Sinners, which many are already calling the best horror movie of 2025, has been available to stream since July 4th.
