The popular Prime Video fantasy series, Good Omens, is ending with a single, final episode. Created by Neil Gaiman and adapted from his 1990 novel co-written with Terry Pratchett, the show first aired in 2019 and has been a critical success, though it often flies under the radar. While Prime Video offers many excellent fantasy programs, Good Omens remains one of its strongest and most deserving of attention.
The series Good Omens centers around Aziraphale, an angel played by Michael Sheen, and Crowley, a demon played by David Tennant, who have known each other for a long time. The first season sees them working together to prevent the Antichrist’s arrival and the end of the world. Season 2 focuses on the mystery of Archangel Gabriel, who has lost his memories, and Aziraphale and Crowley’s efforts to uncover the reason why.
The second season of Good Omens left viewers with a big cliffhanger. While the show has been renewed for a third season, it will now be a single episode to wrap up the story, due to some changes in plans.
Good Omens’ Final Season Is One Feature-Length Episode

The first two seasons of Good Omens each had six episodes, and the creators originally intended the same for the final season. However, plans have changed. The third and final season will now be a single, feature-length episode lasting 90 minutes, and it’s scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on May 13, 2026.
Neil Gaiman, one of the creators of the world of Good Omens, has been closely involved with the show since its beginnings. In 2023, he discussed the potential for a third season, which would likely conclude the series, but explained that the Hollywood strikes in 2023 had disrupted the writing process.
The third season of Good Omens was initially announced in December 2023 with plans for six episodes. However, by October 2024, Neil Gaiman had departed the project, and the season was shortened to a single, extended episode.
Why Neil Gaiman Left Good Omens After Season 2
Production of Good Omens season 3 was delayed both by the recent strikes and by allegations made against Neil Gaiman. In July 2024, several women publicly accused Gaiman of sexual assault and abuse. As a result, some of his projects, including Disney’s film adaptation of The Graveyard Book, were put on hold or canceled.
Filming for Good Omens season 3 was paused in September 2024, and Neil Gaiman left the project the next month as Amazon addressed concerns (according to Deadline). Ultimately, Amazon decided to release season 3 as a single, extended episode. Gaiman will receive writing credit, but he will no longer be the showrunner or executive producer.
The exact reason Amazon decided to make a single, feature-length special instead of a six-episode season 3 of Good Omens isn’t clear. However, it could be related to Neil Gaiman’s departure from the show and his prior work on the story.
Can Good Omens Have A Proper Ending Without A Full Final Season?
The main worry surrounding the final episode of Good Omens is whether it can adequately address all the loose ends from season 2. The season ended with a huge surprise: Crowley confessed his feelings to Aziraphale and kissed him, leaving viewers wondering what will happen next.
Aziraphale had just received a promotion in Heaven from the Metatron (Derek Jacobi), and he urged Crowley to join him there, hoping Crowley could become an angel again. But Crowley preferred a life of freedom with Aziraphale and turned down the offer. Aziraphale, in turn, wouldn’t agree to stay on Earth with Crowley.
The second season of Good Omens left Crowley devastated and Aziraphale heading to Heaven, hinting at a huge crisis to come in season 3. Now, the show needs to wrap up both Crowley and Aziraphale’s personal journeys and finally resolve their relationship.
Plus, season 3 had a significant plot point carefully hinted at throughout the previous seasons. Fans also suspected the angel Metatron was hiding something sinister, a theory sparked by the popular ‘Good Omens’ coffee shop idea. The new season was also expected to provide answers to lingering questions about supporting characters, like the Antichrist from season 1 and Shax’s time ruling Hell.
It will be challenging for Good Omens to wrap up everything in a single, extended episode, but I’m hopeful it can be done well. The show has always been clever and imaginative, so I trust the writers will deliver a fitting and satisfying conclusion for Aziraphale and Crowley.
Good Omens Can Fix Its Final Season In 1 Way
There’s a potential way for Good Omens to improve its final season without altering its plan for just one episode. The show previously used short episodes, particularly in season two, to show Aziraphale and Crowley’s past adventures – like when they met Job or handled a zombie outbreak. These could be used again.
The final episode of Good Omens might be extended with short bonus episodes, allowing the show to explore storylines and characters that didn’t make it into the main 90-minute finale. Whether these minisodes will actually happen is still unknown, but fans are hoping the finale will be a satisfying conclusion to the series.
