Why Frozen’s Josh Gad regrets using his own voice for popular Olaf character: ‘That was my first big mistake’

Why Frozen's Josh Gad regrets using his own voice for popular Olaf character: 'That was my first big mistake'

As a devoted follower and admirer of the enchanting world of Disney, I have to confess that I was taken aback by Josh Gad’s recent admission about regretting voicing Olaf in the Frozen franchise. Having grown up with these magical stories, it is fascinating to witness the behind-the-scenes journey and insights from the talented individuals who bring those characters to life.

Josh Gad admitted her regrets lending his voice to popular Olaf character.

43-year-old actor, who has mentioned that Chris Farley’s biopic holds a deep personal significance for him, revealed on Tuesday his desire to have developed a distinct voice for the snowman character since it is often associated with him by fans of Frozen in public settings.

If given another chance, he admitted he wouldn’t have given the snowman his voice; instead, he would have crafted a unique voice for it. This sentiment was expressed in a video clip posted on TikTok from Fan Expo Canada.

In 2013, he lent his voice to the character Olaf for Disney’s Frozen series, and he did the same for the eagerly awaited sequel that was released in 2016.

‘It’s very weird being in a supermarket and having a little child go like this [turns head slowly]. That was my first big mistake. I try to give it to them when I can,’ he quipped.

He mentioned that others often comment on his distinctive voice, and they appear to appreciate it. Whenever possible, he tries to use it in his speech.

Previously, Frozen’s co-director Jennifer Lee confessed to Screen Crush that a beloved character came very close to being cut from the initial movie.

She revealed that some of the first feedback she received was to ‘kill the snowman.’

Fortunately, Josh’s clever portrayal of a character caught the attention of the movie makers, ultimately resulting in the conception of Olaf, the snowman that Anna (played by Kristen Bell) and Elsa (portrayed by Idina Menzel) had created during their childhood.

The flagship film was a hit at the box office back in 2013, racking up $1.2 billion globally.

Six years on, I simply couldn’t contain my excitement for the long-awaited sequel that swept everyone off their feet and ruled the box office roost. It raked in a staggering $1.450 billion!

It’s been announced that Disney’s animated movie series plans to release a third installment, set to hit cinemas on November 24, 2027, as revealed back in February.

More details surrounding the film were released at this year’s D23 event in Anaheim, California.

Details about the storyline for Frozen 3 remain undisclosed, but as reported by Variety, the songwriters who worked on the previous installments, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, will be rejoining the team again.

Last year in March, the pair shared with Collider that on that specific day, they provided some insights into their thoughts.

We felt extremely energized about it. Now, we need to allow the machinery of Hollywood to work its magic, but we are thrilled by their suggestions.

Disney is feeling very optimistic about the success of the upcoming third Frozen movie, with CEO Bob Iger announcing during an interview on Good Morning America last November that a fourth installment is already being planned.

He mentioned that he had something exciting to share,” he said then. “Apparently, they are developing Frozen 3, and there could even be a Frozen 5 in the pipeline as well.

“To be honest, I don’t have many thoughts about those films at the moment. However, it’s worth noting that Jennifer Lee, who brought us Frozen and Frozen 2, is currently busy with her team at Disney Animation. Intriguingly, they are not just working on one story but actually two!

According to previous reports on Dailymail.com, Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), and Josh Gad (Olaf) are slated to return for the third movie. However, it remains unclear whether they will also reprise their roles in the potential fourth installment.
